Steven Starr strikes again
By all accounts, you can expect two things when you go to any sSarr establishment...an awesome drink menu and a wonderfully designed space. Alma de Cuba was no different. The food, however, was seriously lacking in any real latin flavor and falls short in creating a truly authentic experience. If you're lucky, you're usually too lit by the end of the night to even care.

Best Restaurant in Philly
Enough said.

Magnifico!
This place is absolutely perfect. The ambiance is second only to the food and service. Dim lighting and seductive music make this a great spot for romance or celebrations with friends. The menu is incredible, ceviches that left me craving them for weeks. The entrees were exceptional with all fresh ingredients and perfect preparation. Desserts were amazing and adventerous. Must haves include the mojitos, ceviche and empanadas. The fish here is as fresh as it comes. The service was impeccable. Every upward glance brought service attention without being intrusive. I'm not one to write reviews, but evey aspect of my three visits have been flawless.

So so
I wasn't super impressed with alma de cuba. The food was okay... definitely not worth the price. We had a large party, but no one was particularly pleased with their meal. Even those who had raved about their previous experiences. I found it to be overpriced, but the service was fantastic, presentation was phenomenal, and atmosphere was top notch. I'd recommend coming for a drink, but not splurging on the food.

Great Food and Atmosphere
The food at Alma de Cuba is fantastic. My fiance had the traditional pork with plaintains and rice and beans. It was perfect although a similar dish would be less than half the price in our old neighborhood in NYC. I had the salmon on a bed of black lentils. The taste and presentation were both top-notch. Our server was very attentive and knowlegable about the food. My fiance has a few food alergies and they accomidated her nicely. The price is a bit on the high side for Philadelphia but I would try not to worry about that too much and just enjoy a great dining experience.
