    Gave it 2 chances

I went there once and the crab soup had NO CRAB in it at all. It tasted like cream soup with old bay sprinkled on it. I went back again and got the "crab wrap". How can you mess up a crabcake at a Crabhouse? It was cold and it wasn't even a crabcake. It was more like an imitation crab spread with lettuce & tomatoes.

    Loved Benny's!

I always loved Benny The Bum's. My girlfriends and I would go to Benny's almost every night after work. all of us would get food and of course drinks. The staff was very friendly and I would leave there many of nights wth a good load on and since I lived right down the street, I just walked home. I haven't been back to Benny's since 2001 because I met my husband and moved out to Wayne,Pa in late '01 but I'll have to stop in Benny's next time in in the old neighborhood.Benny The Bum's, Ahhh, the good old days.

    Disappointing

With all the great restaurants in the city, and in particular South Philly, it is hard to imagine how this place survives. The food is mediocre at best the seafood is overcooked, cold, and either tasteless or swimming in grease. The meats were not much better. Service was poor and I'm not really sure whether they have real bartenders or just some college kids filling in for the night. It's best to simply get a bottle of beer where they can't mess it up.

    truly subpar

I am writing to describe the disappointing experience we had at this restaurant last night. We went BTB because we had experienced good food, good service and a pleasant atmosphere in the past. We walked in at about 7:30 pm on November 26, and right away noticed that the music (not live, recorded) was very loud. We asked if there was a part of the restaurant that wasn't so loud. The hostess said that the entire restaurant was about the same, but that they would try to turn it down. She seated us, and a few minutes later, the music got turned UP. Later we realized that she seated us right in front of the speakers for the live band. The waitress when she arrived, was polite and helpful. Even so, it took quite a while for the food to arrive. When it arrived, it was not to the quality that we were used to. All of the seafood was flavorless. We waited for our dinner. Our waitress asked if we wanted more drinks, and we asked if it was possible to turn the music down. She said she would see what she could do. A few minutes later, the music got even louder. Then the testing started for the live band. So both the recorded music, very loud and the testing, very loud, were happening at the same time. Finally our meals arrived. I ordered crab over pasta, and it was utterly flavorless. My sister and mother ordered the seafood chesapeake, which was a splurge for them. They described their meal as rubbery. Then the live music started. The hostess had seated us in front of the speakers, so it was intolerably loud The staff were not helpful at all. We asked if there was a quieter part of the restaurant, and they looked at us like we were nuts. One of them said "Why are you asking me, I just work here." Finally we left. I paid for the meal, mostly because I just wanted to get out of there, but it was the biggest waste of money ever.
