    pleasantly surprised

so i have wanted to try indian food for a while now and i decided to try bindi for my first experience since i had heard so many great things about the place. the atmosphere is cute and cozy and very inviting. i loved everything from start to finish! the spices were definitly unlike anything i have ever eaten before but i really enjoyed it. the potato bread was AMAZING as was the saag side dish. i would go back just to order those 2 things. also a BYOB which is always a plus! will def be back to bindi soon!

    fusion with so much confusion

This restaurant looked awesome. The service was awesome. I was excited. The food fell so short of my expectation. They used a variety of spices that didn't belong together. Too much garlic in some dishes. I was so overloaded that I put my fork down and stopped. I am sad because I really wanted to be excited about this new place. Spice in Edgemont will have a place in my heart forever!

    fantastic indian food

having grown up with home cooked indian food for the first 18 years of my life, and having eaten at many an indian buffet, i tend to have a cynical view of 'eat out' indian cuisine. im even more skeptical of food that claims to be indian fusion. bindi, however, was picture perfect. all of the dishes my dining companion and i ordered were delicious (lamb kabob and mango chaat for apps and veggie thali and pork vindaloo for entrees), but by far the best thing we ate was the sweet goat cheese paratha with yogurt sauce. who knew goat cheese, cardomom, and honey could come together to make this staple of indian cuisine, the paratha, sing with flavor?! i would go back just for an order of the inventive paratha. good flavors - fusion done well, in my opinion - and byob make this place a definite repeat.

    good

I've been to many Indian restaurants all over the world and, this is the best one ive ever been to. This isn't authentic Indian food. It's an amazing interpretation of authentic indian food. It makes me proud to see this type of cuisine evolve in such a way.

    Best New Restaurant in Philly

I've been monitoring the reviews online - yelp, chowhound, etc. I've read so many negative blogs about this gem online, and, honestly, I'd love to meet some of these people in personjust for laughs. This place is great. Hands down, best Indian I've ever had. Trumps Tabla in NYC, and many in London. What they're doing here is very, very newand apparently is meeting a lot of opposition. Yes, there is pork and beef on the menu. But we are not in Indiathis is the US, in case no one noticed. The menu is ecclectic, and well-thought out. It's not a bunch of pureed goo that sits in a warmer all day and night. Most other byob's in the city are cash only. The prices are comparable as well. No $10 buffet here. The service is always attentive and helpful, and I actually feel happier after leaving there. What is happening there is innovative, and unfamiliarmuch like making an intercontinental move to another country that is very different from your own, offering freedom and a way of seeing things with new eyes. This place has caused quite a stirand I think it's fabulous (you're giving them free advertising). If you notice, most of the negative blogs make blanket statements, that have no bearing. I can tell you this: The turkey kabob lettuce wraps are amazingcrisp, spicy, and explosion of Indian spices in each bite. $9 The lentil "dosa", which is actually more like a cross between a dosa and an uttapam, is so appealing in both flavor and texture. So it doesn't wrap over and it's not all crispy like what you've gotten elsewhere.... It's good! $4 Entrees: Beef Shortribs are phenomenal. The vindaloo sauce with the pork is the best I've had. Everything is very well balanced flavor-wise: not too spicy, but just enough to cut any sweetness or add that little extra "pow" to a dish. Stop hating on the placeit's great. My prediction is that because of the uniqueness of it, it will get major coverage eventually, maybe even nationally. Then good luck getting in the door!

    Unique in U.S.

In a word, our meal at Bindi was fabulous! You will have to travel to London and pay big bucks in one of their high-end modern Indian restaurants (such as Rasoi Vineet Bhatia, Zaika or Amaya) to get this level of creativity and flavor. It's nothing short of amazing that this restaurant is located in Philadelphia. And by the way, the portion sizes were large (too much so for our table) and the prices ridiculously low for this degree of quality and complexity.
