    Omg! Are you kidding!

My fiance and I just dined at Blackfish the other night. It was amazing... the food was wonderful and the service was so excellent... We had the smoked salmon and panna cotta. They were to die for. We split the short rib stuffed pasta as a second course. My Italian grandmother would love to try those. The toasted sage and burnt butter with our red wine was out of this world. We finished the night with a surf and turf and Dourade. I am still dreaming about the meal. We also made friends with the couple next to us... it is very tight there but super fun, like being in a hip NYC restaurant. A must try....

    We won't be back

I have to say I was very disappointed with this restaurant. I specifically made my friends go here because it was listed as the #3 restaurant in Philadelphia magazine. We were three couples for dinner. The service was so-so. Our waiter did not pour our wine....he didn't even offer....nor did he even offer us a wine bucket. The food was average at best...though my appetizer was very good...i had the smoked salmon. I had the boullabaise as my entree....which was really just a broth with one shrimp, one scallop and a couple pieces of fish. It was very watery and really not very flavorful. They also were not very good about offering more bread when the meal came...and I didn't want to have to ask again. My friend got the surf and turf ...which was just two scallops ( and they were practically raw) and a small piece of braised short rib. For desert we had the beignets (which were ok) and the chocolate cake with sage ice cream (which was not very good- the sage ice cream did not compliment the chocolate cake at all). Overall I think we spent alot of money ($450 for the 6 of us) and none us really loved it. We have been to a lot better places recently....like Birchrunville Store Cafe in Chester Springs...and ButterFish in West Chester. ...and Gilmore's. I think this place is way over rated and I do not believe I will go back.

Best BYOB in a few years: BLACKFISH

As I walked into the restaurant I was greeted by the pearly whites of the manager Ashley who seated us promptly. Within a few minutes the waitress Kathy greeted us and gave us time to make a toast at the area's best new BYOB. It brought back great memories of Alison's at Bluebell bothe based on the food and environment. How such a youthful manager and 27 yr old chef churn out such "omg";s and "wow's" is beknownst to me. I have been there three times and always ask for Kathy as a waitress. Everything on the menu has been a hit..honestly! The surf and turf combined scallops and braised short ribs that melted in myh mouth. The meat dumplings that I had as an appetizer were so good that I ordered them second time around. There is no weakness in the food or service. Ashley and company should start looking for a bigger restaurant anyday now because only good things lie ahead. I'd like to see more frequent changes in the menu for us repeat customers since it does have a modest number of choices even thought everything is made to perfection...... ...if you want a wonderful dining experience in a very causual BYOB environment, this is it..and ask for Kathy as your waitress...you wont be sorry!

    Comment

Just wanted to comment on a prior post by Kati. The chicken pot-pie is unbelievable, she said it was bland. I find that hard to believe, it had been talked about on the radio, review boards as being the best around! Go back and try it again!

    A neighborhood gem

Yes, I do agree that this place tends to be cramped -- I almost feel I am dining at a New York restaurant. The chef is talented. He really knows how to blend flavors well. His menus are interesting and different. The servers that I have been lucky to have had have all been warm, friendly and knowledgeable. The parking is challenging at best. The prices seem very fair for a neighborhood place and BYOB is a plus. I think it is here to stay for quite a while.

    Awesome!!!

My boyfriend and I went to Blackfish the other night for dinner... It was way beyond what we expected. We sat in the back room, at a tiny little table in the corner. The staff did nothing but make us feel at home from the moment we stepped in the door. Yes, the tables are close to each other, but the nice thing about is you can see what the others are eating around you and get an idea of what you will order the next time you go. I had the lamb chops, which were outstanding and my boyfriend had the fish special...some kind of bass, with mushrooms and yellow curry sauce. He loved it. The service was phenominal, and the food once again way beyond our expectations. Even dessert was great, we should have gotten 2 orders of the beignets. It was one of the best meals we have ever had... and we will def. be back...again...and again...and again. I highly suggest trying it out! Its a jewel in Conshy!
