We are from NYC, and love taking family time in Philly. We were able to get the four of us together for a five day stay at our favorite local hotel. The final night's meal was at Blackfish. Being very keyed in to the restaurant business, and reading many reviews since last year's #1 in Philadelphia Mag, we were all really excited. No we are not NY restaurant snobs either on a Per Se high end or a trendy end, just those who know good, tasty, exciting well prepared food and top service. This place has neither! They are trading off reputation serving very small portions (either appetizers or mains) with prices that are about 25% overpriced. We started with 3 appetizers - oysters with Meyer Lemon, Salmon around fried egg and sardine crudo. Each was very small and, with the exception of the crudo, vertually without taste or seasoning. Each cost around $15-16. Three second courses - again, without significant taste. Four entrees - Poached Salmon, Tuna, Skate with lentils and a double appetizer portion of ravioli. Ravioli very good; skate well prepared, but underseasoned; salmon and tuna distinctly underwhelming. Beignets for desert were fun, but too big and heavy. Place is very crowded with tables too close together, very noisy, unsmiling staff and the feeling that they want you out to turn the table. The chef owner should take greater contol and stop reading his press clippings. Bill with tip $300+. Don't be fooled by the hype - forget about it. Amities Gourmandes, Ally's dad

Had dinner last night at Black Fish. Stay away. The service is poor and be expected to be requested to leave so they can sit more people. The food is ok, but tables very close and noisy. And their desire is to sit as many people as possible so you will be required to leave even if you order 4 or more courses. This is not fine dining but fast food atmosphere with high prices.

I ate there last night. The lobster was bland, the oysters were poor, and the sauces were tasteless. For these prices, you better have outstanding food. It doesn't. I had four courses. The dessert was pretty good, but nothing spectacular. I think the best part was the bread. I left hungry, and had to order food from another restaurant. Don't waste your money...

I am a foodie and have had the good fortune to dine in fine restaurants in major cities on four continents. My dinner at Blackfish easily ranks in my top five. I have never encountered a more knowledable wait staff. The service was excellent. At times we had three people serving our party of three. The food was fresh and seasonal, cooked and presented to perfection. We shared several 1st and 2nd courses for the table--soup, risotto, a tartar, a salad. We each had a different seafood entree and every one was delicious. The menu is on the expensive side, but the overall experience is well worth the money. I wish my budget allowed me to eat here more often.

The food was good - however, we went the day before Valentine's day and we were not told it was a fixed price when I made the reservations - it was $85 per person which was too much for what you got - especially since the menu choices were very limited. It was also very tight in there - not sure if they added tables for Valentine's weekend or not.

I took my parents here a few months back and this place absolutely blew me away. I am a restaurant junkie and have the pleasure of living in NYC -- thus i often get to eat some pretty amazing meals at what are considered some of the best restaurants in the country. AND THIS PLACE COMPETES! The food was excellent and the service top notch. I highly recommend.

My fiance and I just dined at Blackfish the other night. It was amazing... the food was wonderful and the service was so excellent... We had the smoked salmon and panna cotta. They were to die for. We split the short rib stuffed pasta as a second course. My Italian grandmother would love to try those. The toasted sage and burnt butter with our red wine was out of this world. We finished the night with a surf and turf and Dourade. I am still dreaming about the meal. We also made friends with the couple next to us... it is very tight there but super fun, like being in a hip NYC restaurant. A must try....
