We are serious food snobs---cook better at home than most 5-star restaurants do on a good night---and we are hard to impress. And, we are semi-vegetarian (some fish, usually in sushi) so often are disappointed by the boring veg options. But then we had the Brown Rice platter, the winter veggies, and more at Boot & Saddle! The best thing I can say is----it was DIFFERENT, SURPRISING...flavor profiles that made me stop, think, savor, wonder. The Brown Rice platter seemed "on paper" to be simple: brown rice chips, beet relish, pistachio cheese. OK, I thought, this could either be like high-end "health food" or something I've had a million times before. Well...it really knocked my socks off. Layers of taste and thought and care and innovation. Focused...bright...textures....wow! Salted to perfection---not afraid to wake up the palate! Last fall, we did a mini "gastronomy" tour of NYC. Le Bernadin was among the events---well, let's say, I can't even remember one bite from that night. Not one. Boot & Saddle's chef brings a creativeness and art to what I could call "gourmet comfort" food that is special and rare. AND, the whole meal (was $45)---so, it was CHEAP too!!!! 5 Stars!
