    Officially Addicted

unlike some addictions i've had in the past, my current addiction to the vegetarian bahn mi at Cafe Nhu Yi is both affordable and relatively healthy. of all of the Vietnamese hoagies that i have had in Philadelphia, this one is the best because of their bread, the flavor of the tofu, and the spicy peppers. yum, yum.

great food, just need to work on...

this is a great cheap place to buy really good food. my only problem is a sanitary one. many times they make the sandwiches with the plastic gloves on and then handle the money and LEAVE the gloves on. That really bothers me because this can definitely lead to germs spreading around. I've seen it happen a few times now. I've also seen them make sandwiches without gloves on and I've never seen them wash there hands. This is an important factor for me. I've gotten sick too many times from eating out to ignore these factors. If they would take the 'gloves' off and handle the money, show us they're washing there hands, it would improve the place a lot. the food is great, and prices are cheap.

Best banh mi in South Phillly

I love their Vegetarian Vietnamese Hoagies. I would try something else but i just can't resist this one every single visit. Sometimes I even get 2 and even if I'm on the road for a while. It's delicious, fresh warm baguette, with crunchy fresh herbs and veggies and a special marinated tofu. Mmmmm Good for your money when compared to other Italian specialty hoagies for twice as much money and not nearly as healthy

    Best banh mis in town

So what if Cafe Nhu Y is a literal hole in the wall - they make the best banh mi (Vietnamese sandwiches) in Philadelphia. Although I eat meat, my favorite is the vegetarian special with marinated tofu, jalapeno peppers, vegetables and mayo on a baguette .. it's ridiculously cheap and every bit as good as South Philly's better known Italian sandwich gurus.
