    A Fat-Free Oasis

I have known the owner, Dave, since the 1960's, when we went to Ridley High School together. But later I moved away and hadn't visited Carmen's for many years. Recently I was strongly advised by Springfield Hospital's Cardiac Rehab unit to switch to a low-fat diet, which prompted my return to Carmen's. Dave has carefully researched the ways of making Italian foods low-fat and still appealing for those requiring a special diet. You can still order a double pepperoni and sausage pizza if you need to satisfy your desire for meat, but if you need a low-fat diet like myself, you can eat there without worrying about the ingredients, or putting the waitress and the chef through an inquisition. One of my greatest frustrations elsewhere has been to read a menu and not find a single entree that fits my needs. Too often I am stuck ordering a salad or an egg-beaters omelette by default, while the others in my party have the run-of-the-menu to pick from. At Carmen's you will find whole wheat bread & pasta, soy-based cheese, and veggie (say "vegan") substitutes dotting the menu. Try the carrot, spinich and mushroom whole wheat tomato pie. Ask for Dave, and he will come to your table and happily counsel you on how to have your favorite dish d within your low-fat needs. This is not the place to bring your date and propose marriage. It is clean, comfortable, and has a family atmosphere. The tables around you may have children or a handful of nuns. Often the table next to you will be empty, as Carmen's business is largely take-out or delivery. But do go there, don't just order by phone. You need to meet Dave and see the enthusiasm in his eyes as he tells you about how he traveled the country to find the best source for low-fat cheese and other ingredients.

    Freshest Pizza in Delaware Co.

Best Pizza: deep dish or thin crust, traditional or whole wheat, simply the best ingredients and never greasy! Great specialty pizza, salads and more. Fantastic and generous specialty sandwiches as well, just ask about their marinated portabella maximus and others... Cozy family dining area, like family: very inviting and casual. Thanks just for being there- and ready to deliver!

    Delco Tradition

Family owned and operated since 1959. Not just the usual pizza joint, Carmen's has a full selection of healthy and vegan meals priced and prepared to enjoy.

Take out service above and beyond

Dave, the owner of Carmen's Pizza provides excellent food and service to Swarthmore College. I highly recommend Carmen's for luncheons. They deliver when promised and are helpful and courteous.
