    A Standout Experience

What a delightful evening. We sat back and surrendered to one great taste after another during a recent dinner at Chick's. This little gem of a restaurant complete with an appealing and cozy ambiance is the genuine thing. Have to admit the setting became secondary once we began tasting our food. The Broccoli rabe, Roasted beets, and Soft shell crabs were truly exceptional but no moreso than the Scallops, Pork tenderloin and Braised short ribs with wild mushroom gorgonzola which were every bit as luscious. Because we were reluctant to let go of the evening, we let the homemade gelato work the final bit of magic on our taste buds. We could not find enough good things to say about the experience. It was great.

    Outstanding

I'd give the food a 6 if I could. Everything we shared from the broccoli rabe and beets (I normally don't eat Beets, but my date had me try them) to the spinach/prosciutto gnudi (naked ravioli) to the stuffed dates (melt in your mouth!) and braised short rib with polenta was remarkable. Service was attentive and just felt very unpretentious and comfortable. The help with the extensive wine list was right on and excellent values. The Mediterranean atmosphere is straight out of a Europe. Well done redo of this building built around 1890. This is by far my favorite restaurant ever!

    Much welcomed to the neighborhood

Chick's is exactly what South Philly is known for: Capturing the sense of the old country with a classic Philly charm. The wine and cheese pairings were spot on, and the tapas-style fare was simple and fresh. Chick's completely captures the atmosphere, food and wine of a corner restaurant in Rome. This is exactly what the neighborhood needed for its new demographic of residents. A perfect date spot to impress or rekindle.

Great food, drinks and best prices

This place is a rare find...the decor is extremely well done; service is amiable; food is excellent; and best it is compeletely unpretentious and well priced. Wines, beers, cheese selection and cured meats are straight out of a cozy bar on the Mediterranean somewhere. The food is fresh and offers a broad selection. Although diverse, the menu gives the impression of a well-crafted presentation as opposed to a laundry-list of chef's inventions. The owners have avoided using that over-used tag "Tapas" but Chick's is truly what a tapas bar should be. You roll in around 7 and spend a long evening drinking, snacking on a succesion of small plates and having great conversation in a completely relaxed setting. Best of all the prices are such that a) you can afford to drink and eat all night and b) you feel that is totally worth it. Very good times!
