Second only to nostalgia,
Which is no more, dante and luigi's has a delicious marinara and meat gravy. so good, that my fusspot grandmother will eat here and she never eats anyone else's gravy. nostalgia was the best, but it burned down with the rest of palumbo's 13 years ago now. Dante and luigi's makes delicious sweetbreads, lamb stew, manicotti, lasagne, you name it, it's good. I've never not enjoyed a dish here, whether i ordered it or a dining companion did.

Red Sauce Italian... Updated
Dante & Luigi's is one of the older South Philly Italian restaurants. The food is vintage classics like lasagna, manicotti and chicken parmigana with a few Northern Italian concessions to modern taste slipped in. Do yourself a favor and avoid the newfangled dishes in favor of a mammoth, mozzarella-filled baked ziti or veal parm platter.
