Was disappointed by the not-so-sweet ending
My family and I went to Distrito for the University City Dining Days event. When we first went in my little sister immediately loved all the pink and the luchador masks, and the rest of my family seemed to like the decor as well. As we sat down we were informed that we would each choose two small plated to share...this may have sounded fun but it was a bit complicated. Out food though, came promptly and looked rather lovely and quite appetizing. The flavors were unique and though it was 'fusion' it stayed loyal to true mexican cuisine. All the dishes were a little smaller than we'd have wanted it. What were some of our favorites were the divers scallops, ceviche with shrimp and yellowtail, pork tacos, and octopus. butt he small plates seemed more like an amous bouche. Afterwards we felt somewhat satisfied for the meal, though my father noted that his margarita was 'weak' and for 12 dollars was definitely over-priced and not worth the money. My little sister got quesedillas which weren't much, but she seemed happy sampling the other dishes as well. I think little kids will enjoy the atmosphere and the food, since nothing is too overpowering or spicy. As we sat down and waited for our desserts we felt moderately full, but I was excited to try the flan (there were only two desserts choices) but was utterly dismayed when the flan turned out to be about an inch in diameter and small enough to pop in my mouth whole. The flan was good, but right before I could really dig into it I realized that it was all gone. My mother ordered the chocolate con tres leches which was a mildly bitter chocolate mousse with a nice pineapple sauce. But like my dessert it was eating quickly without much enthusiasm. The dessert seemed like an after-thought, and with the 30 dollars per person price we thought that Distrito was anything but a 'steal' If you are looking for a very filling and hearty 30 dollar per person meal with a dessert that's more than two bites I recommend The Marigold Kitchen, which is also participating in Dining Days. And every Sunday they have a 30 dollar per person dinner. Overall, in this economic crisis, everyone could use a little pick-me-up meal at a nice restaurant. Just don't go to one where you still leave hungry.

great but...
...it's definitely small portions, but well worth it b/c everything is quite tasty! the tortilla soup and kobe tacos were so delish that we went back the following week too! However, don't do take out! Highly disappointing, the tortilla soup was half the size, such a joke ...so go and check it out yourself, dine there and enjoy!

A welcome addition to University City
We recently received a card about this new restaurant that made us want to check it out. At first the pink restaurant is overwhelming, but eventually grows on you. We ended up ordering the chef's sampler for two people. This was a pricey choice, but was worth every penny. It was three courses, and was more than we could eat. Every item brought to our table was delightful and full of flavor. I feel like we tried everything they had to offer and was not disappointed. Next time, I'm sure anything we choose will be great. You may pay more, but between the fantastic service and great food, it was well worth it!

Good Food for such small portions
My wife has decided to change careers and go back to school, so we have just start to discover University City (we moved to Center City 4 years ago). For her first week, I decided to take her to Distrito mostly because we are Chef Jose Garces fans (Amada and Tinto). I have to say the location décor is like blend of Continnetal and El Vez. It’s a fun place but is border line in the too much and exuberant decoration. We had the Tacos Carnitas, Queso Fundido, Ceviche de Camarones, Platanos con Crema, and the Chilango. Food quality and the all ingredients used are top notch, great taste. Overall: the food is great. Service is terrific and our waitress was sweet, no rush, and very professional. But the food portions are ridiculous small. I know the concept is similar to a tapas place and I am a big fan of Amada (despite their prices will make any Spaniard to cry) and I visit Barcelona twice a year for business so I eat a lot of tapas. I have to say their portions are by far smallest tapas or dishes I have seen in a while. Margaritas are good and even the dessert (we had the flan) was great. However, the flan was so small that we barely felt we had any. Just work in the portions especially you are located in University City. We paid around $85 and we were ok because I am used to Amada and Center City prices, but I am not sure students would be able to catch up if the portion is so small.
