My friend and I went to Effie's to have dinner. For an appetizer we got the saganaki which is fried cheese which was amazing and we got the small Greek salad which was the perfect size for 2 people. For our dinner we got the chicken souvlaki platter and the stuffed peppers which was a special and they were both great. We really enjoyed our dinner at Effie's

After trying to get in without reservations at two other "Greek" restaurants we went to Effie's and were seated. My appetizer was the lemon, chicken soup with rice and it was good. My wife ordered the mussels and we were surprised when they were brought to the table without shells. We surmised that they were out of a can. Whether or not they were canned or fresh they were not very tasty. For our entrees, my wife had an unspectacular Gyro and I had something called Lamb Fricassee. The lamb was dry and hard to find amid the heaping pile of bland peas. The waiter and the rest of the staff seemed friendly and attentive but in all likelihood we won't be back.

Effie's has good greek food at reasonable prices. We like sitting outdoors (although the metal chairs are tough on the butt). unfortunately, the least time we were there, a sudden shower came up and we had to hurry and move the meal indoors. Alas--there was only one table available and it was next to the kitchen and the heat was oppressive. Go on a clear night and check the forecast.

The food here was decent, but not that authentic and a bit overpriced. The service was really poor... our waitress forgot what she was doing and was more interested in flirting with the cook. I suppose it's all right if you're right there and too lazy to walk to another Greek restaurant.

If you are looking for authentic Greek food, this is not the place. Traditional Greek recipes have been "Americanized" for the Yankee pallet and the combination of filo dough with pasta did not bode well with me at all. Now granted I grew up eating traditional Greek food from my mother and aunts & uncles, but if you are looking for the real deal, you may want to go elsewhere in Philly.

A great BYO. Food is very reasonably priced and a great value. Service was ok but I expected better as there are only a few tables. I think that the majority of their business is takeout. Would still recommend as the place has great atmosphere and food was very good.

My girlfriend wanted delivery but wanted Greek food. The restaurant from which we were about to order had just closed down. A quick Google search brought up Effie's. It was incredibly reasonable and the food was quite good. It would never be rated highly by Zagat's but as far as delivery goes, it exceeded expectations. I recommend it highly. The lamb souvlaki was fantastic, and the grape leaves were even better.
