    The price is right

This place definitely hit the price point for the neighborhood and offers a good variety of food selections. The atmosphere is rustic, but clean, added to a decent beer selection and an allstar team of bartenders, El Camino is a great spot to hang out with some friends and meet some new ones.

    Dry

For a bbq spot the food always seems dried out. I've given it many tries and am always excited until i am disappointed. The mac and cheese is also inconsistent.

Another Reason to Check Out the Piazza at Schmidts

We have fallen in love with the new Piazza at Schmidt's and its surrounding neighborhood. Here is another reason to visit. El Camino Real is a rustic looking tex-mex style restaurant with a surprisingly good menu. We tried the seitan bbq wings which were awesome, crunchy and crispy texture and great sauce. The salads were also fresh and flavorful. Great drinks menu also with an excellent selection of tequilas and beers. This place is well worth the trip away from Center City or the Washington street Mexican restaurants.

Lots of good food, but some kinks to work out

We had a really nice time on our first trip here. We got the onion rings, which were awesome, and the seitan wings as an appetizer. They were seriously delicious. SERIOUSLY. The texture was great. We then shared the chile rellenos and did not think it was all that good. It was kind of a mess of textures and muddy flavors. We also had to wait a really long time for dessert. there seems to have been a kitchen problem, so we also didn’t get the bunuelos (sp?) that we ordered. Instead, we got banana pudding which was fine, but missing the chocolate the menu described. Oh, and the service was friendly and professional, and the ambiance is pretty cool.
