My husband and I went to Farmacia tonight for dinner. We'd been there for brunch in the past and it was great, but dinner was absolutely disappointing. The bread and herb butter were fine and we even ordered the Mexican caesar salad which we thought would be something different and exciting. The salad was a regular caesar with some tortilla strips on it and some bland cornmeal crusted shrimp. Nothing memorable and nothing I'd ever order again. As for the entrees, this is where we were really disappointed. My husband ordered the NY strip steak - done to medium - with bleu cheese butter, mashed potatoes and sauteed spinach. It came out charred crispy on the outside with a tinge of pink only in a 1/2" x 1/2" spot in the center of the steak. Not usually one to complain about an overcooked steak, my husband actually sent this back as it was dry, tough, and crunchy from all of the char. The server then brought out such a rare steak as a replacement that the outside was barely browned. The inside was cool and the rare red color was visible throughout the majority of the steak's thickness and even up to a couple of edges. It was disgusting and honestly, unsafe to serve! We informed the server and instead of apologizing for what seemed like a passive aggressive attempt by the chef to piss us off for sending back a steak, she became argumentative and told us "well you didn't like what we consider to be medium so the chef gave you something less than what we consider medium." Ok, less than medium, does not mean fresh out of the fridge. We ordered the Farmacia brownie sundae at the end and the brownie tasted like a sponge. In fact, had they not been associated with Metropolitan bakery I would have thought they were using those high protein brownies but it actually didn't even taste as good as a protein brownie! We will not go back to Farmacia and we will not recommend it to friends. Very disappointing food and service.

Second time at the restaurant and both times the food was way under any modicum of quality for CC. One of our dishes was a wrap which took a long time to arrive. It wasn't as good, or as filled with food as a WAWA meal. More disappointing was the service. Slow, disingenuous and unwilling to accommodate the diner's concerns. Talk about smug.... when did the "farm" become such a haven for pretentious service ?

I have been to Farmicia twice and was extremely please both times. Atmosphere is casual, comfortable and not too loud. Service was great and the food was outstanding. Although I am not a vegetarian, I ordered vegetarian meals both times. Most recently, I had corn and risotto croquettes. Two good sized croquettes were served on top of a generous serving of perfectly spiced ratatouille. It was an interesting, creative and delicious blend of flavors. I had the french lentil salad as an appetizer. It was also very good, though perhaps too much food for an appetizer. My two friends were also pleased with their salads and entrees (they both ordered fish). On my first visit, several months ago, I had a curried pear salad which was excellent and the eggplant cannelloni. The eggplant was delicious and served with some interesting, creative extras (now I forget what they were, but I remember being very pleased with the creativity of the meal and the way it was presented). I like the focus that this restaurant has on local food, but I'm not sure what their standards are for the meat that they serve. While I am not a vegetarian, I do avoid factory-farmed meat (humane treatment of animals, health concerns for humans and environmental concerns all matter to me). Overall, I've had two very positive dining experiences.

The atmosphere was great, the service was average, and the food was subpar. I was unsatisfied with the menu, flavors, sauces, dressings, and it was definitely overpriced. I won't go back or recommend this place.

I've only been to Farmacia for happy hour, but my feelings on it are a bit mixed. Ordinarily the drinks are quite overpriced, even if they are well-made and tasty, but the happy hour discount made them believable. The bartender was great. He was funny, super-attentive and really good about letting us order one more round before happy hour was cut off. The rest of the staff, though, I was less than thrilled with. There weren't many people there that night, so most of the staff seemed to just be standing around chatting. Funny, every restaurant I've worked in has plenty of side work to do in the slow hours. It was a little off-putting to be paying so much while a bunch of waitresses with bad attitudes stood off to the side and scoffed, especially when the bartender was doing so much. Everyone there was sitting at the bar, and none of the wait staff even ran food out from the kitchen. The bartender is the only reason I would give a decent service rating. As for the food, I really wasn't that impressed. I ordered the grilled brie, which sounded amazing. The cheese itself was good, but the crustini was overdone (to the point of being burned in places). There were parts of it I absolutely couldn't eat. We ordered some fries for everyone to split, and for the price it was a ridiculously small order. Maybe the most frustrating thing, though, is that the kitchen seemed to be seriously disorganized. Three of us placed our orders at the same time, and the food came out over the course of about fifteen minutes. I heard the bartender put the order in all together, but the kitchen screwed up and forgot things and sent it all out separately. The atmosphere is great (other than the gaggle of bored staff staring you down) and the drinks are great (as long as you're only paying happy hour prices). Unfortunately, the service is pretty poor and the food isn't worth anything near what they're charging for it. If it weren't for the great bartender and the yummy espresso martinis, I probably would have left long before happy hour was over.

Everyone who says that this restaurant is bad has no idea what they are talking about. Both of my experiences at Farmicia were excellent! Yes, it is a bit pricey (It was about $90 for my girlfriend and I), but the quality of food is excellent and the restaurant is absolutely beautiful. The ingredients are fresh and everything was very well cooked. I would especially recommend the calamari for an appetizer, Mm! Going late can also be a very good idea, especially in the summertime, as you are likely to get a seat in or near the window. Overall it was an awesome experience, try it!

contrary to other reviews. I thought this quaint resturant was wonderful. The service was outstaning from the host, the bar staff wait staff and support staff. The food was excellent, some of the choices we made were the st Petes fish, the burger and the crab and pear salad. Out of the many resturants in Philadelphia, this is the one I will return too!!
