We've frequented Garces since they opened and while I love the atmosphere, the fact it's a byow and the service is always good ... I was very disappointed during our last dining experience in Jan 2011. We ordered the baby artichoke app and couldn't believe how miniscule (smaller than small) the artichokes actually were. They were swimming in the sauce, which was amazing but too much. the app was disappointing. While the portions in general are on the small side, this was ridiculous. Other than that, we enjoyed our dinner. The entree selections could be expanded or changed up more often for those who dine there frequently. We'll be back, but won't order an app unless we actually see it first : )

I'm excited to try other Jose Garces spots. The food was fantastic. Try the fungi pizza and the hanger steak. Avoid the mint chocolate bomb dessert unless you REALLY like fresh mint or you like eating pine trees. The beer is overpriced so bring your own bottle of wine. If you forget, there is a PA state store IN the restaurant.. The feel of this place is great, but the tables are so close together so make sure you're OK with dining close to other. We ended up chatting with the table next to us (no more than 2 inches away). Probably not the best place in town if you don't want people knowing your personal business or details of your private life. A tight squeeze!

EXCELLENT deep dish pizza - It has a crust make of cornmeal (we think) with lot's of cheese. Really good!

I have been wanting to try Garces Trading Co. since it opened and I finally had the chance to last night. The food is absolutely delicious. We started with the baby artichokes which were so juicy and sweet and had an amazing sauce. We followed that by the endive salad which was also a very good starter. For our meals, we got 2 pasta dishes, the carbonara and the linguini with clams. They were both very very good but the carbonara was unreal! I cannot wait to go back and get this again. I might even have to order it for takeout, it was THAT good! Don't hesitate to try this neighborhood gem. Its a byob as well which makes it that much more appealing to me!

This restaurant is a great selection of food from many different countries throughout the world. Not only does it have fabulous sandwich, coffee, and dessert takeout counters, but it also has a great menu. The menu covers meats, cheeses, great sides, as well as a mix of pasta, meat, and fish dishes. Not only are the menu and takeout counters innovative and tasty, but the restaurant was also clever enough to partner with a state liquor store, where you can select a bottle of wine of your choice. The only minor problem was that the music was slightly loud and my parents, who I ate with, were slightly annoyed at the end. Since moving to Philadelphia two years ago I have been waiting for a restaurant to have such a selection of food and drink where I can bring visitors.

The tasting menu at lunchtime is a great value. Try the artichokes, the leek soup, the green pizza, the pasta with clams, the wonderful cheese plate (request they include the LaSerena--you can eat it with a spoon). Love the fact that you can buy your wine in a sectioned off area run by the Pa. State Store at State Store prices. Only drawback, the entire table must have the tasting menu in order for anyone to have it. The terrific waiter waived the rule for us, but there are no guarantees it will not be enforced next time.

Visited Garces Trading today for lunch. It is such a lovely place and not expensive! Had the lamb sandwich which was very good and of a good size , the duck salad which was great, and the baby artichokes. All for 30 bucks. Not bad for a Jose Garces place. All in all a great place and I will definitely be back.
