Sam, we all love you bro!!
I found Golden Empress after the folks on the Philly Blog recommended it. It's been my go-to Chinese place for friends and family visiting Philly for almost three years now. Sam is an incredible host and the food is fantastic. I'm a regular because there's no other point is going anywhere else for Chinese. Rock on Sammy! SS

Chinese Sam and The Golden Empress
Agreed. Even after a recent make-over this place still looks like any run-of-the-mill Chinese food place, but it doesn't taste that way. My boyfriend and I are barely even regulars and Sam, the server, knows we don't even need a menu... it's the "usual" for us. The food is always great, the place is clean and Sam is awesome!! Definitely worth a try!

Delicious
Fifteen years ago I lived a few blocks away from this hidden gem, and it quickly became my favorite Chinese restaurant. I've lived in the western suburbs for the past 10 years, but I still make the trek to Golden Empress Garden on a regular basis for their delicious vegetarian dishes. It appears to be just a typical tiny run-of-the-mill Chinese eatery, but appearances are deceiving. It's a "go out of your way" type of place. It The veggie dishes are yum-yum good!

Simply amazing
I'm not a vegetarian, my girlfriend is (ovo-lacto), and we both agree the food is amazing there. If you are a meat eater, don't hold yourself back from the vegetarian menu either, the vegetarian chicken offers interesting tastes and textures that is a good substitute for meat or just an occasional change from "the usual." The vegetarian lemon-chicken is especially good. The only downside is that the place is often full of of those obnoxious vegetarian fashion-hippie types, so if you are not one of those, come in early or get take-out.

Philly's Vegetarian Secret
Golden Empress is a sitdown Chinese restaurant just off South Street with a full vegetarian menu. It's a lot less known than the better known vegan Chinese restaurants in Chinatown, but the food is really good here. And they deliver!
