I am just at the end of a long visit to the East Coast of the USA and I've eaten out a lot in that time. I would have to rate this the best of all. My girlfriend and I had been doing the tourist visit to the East State penitentiary, and came out wanting water and coffee and a sit down. Hickory Lane is right next door to the ESP, so was an ideal place in terms of location. For a start the coffee was very good coffee. Then we saw the food menu and the cocktail menu. We had a shared starter of 'Beet and Bleu' - Beets with salad greens, blue cheese and walnut pieces lightly dressed. It was very tasty. To follow, I had salmon on a bed of 'forbidden black rice' - delicious. Served with haricots verts and a lemon and walnut glaze. The glaze took the edge of the salmon's natural richness. All was cooked to perfection. The beans were 'al dente' - so good to find when people usually seem to cook vegetables to mush. My girlfriend had 'Steak Frites' - beautifully cooked steak pieces with herb butter and a 'veal jus' with real steak fries. The cocktails too were great. Everything on the food menu and cocktail menu looked great. With the choices we made we were definitely not disappointed. I'd recommend Hickory Lane any time!

My husband and I walked down for a very enjoyable brunch this morning. The menu on this site is outdated, as they have breakfast/lunch/brunch as well as dinner--see their website for details. I was surprised that there was no non-meat egg dish (the one omelet had meat in it), but they happily left the ham off the Eggs Benedict for me. Everything was tasty and the service was impeccable.
