up to the standards of San Francisco's very best
Hunan is more formal than warm with the split dining rooms and lounge removing energy and flow from the restaurant. What you do get is a quiet, well decorated setting for the elegant and beautiful meal. Our meal was very good and up to the standards of philly's very best. The seven course meal was memorable both for the uniqueness of its ingredients and the surprisingly large portions.

Most Authentic Chinese Outside of China
Hunan is the best Chinese food around. Having just returned from living in China, I was shocked to find a place in the US, let alone in a tiny, "hole in the wall" place in Ardmore. The Hot and Sour soup is amazing ($3) and the dumplings ($7) are a great, basic start to any meal. They have a wide variety of dishes including a lot of tofu dishes. (Tofu is traditionally prepared with meat or vegetables, not just added at the end of the cooking/heating process like most places serve). Our favorites are the spicy dished - Mongolian Beef and Sechzuan Pork - but the shrimp dishes are amazing and the sauces great! The service is just above average - it's a family run place where the teenagers do all the serving - but food comes straight out of the kitchen hot and tasty.
