Great Deli. Traditional yet modern. Wonderful breakfast specials!
This place is one of my favorite spots for an authentic deli experience. The nova lox, kippered salmon and whitefish always look fresh and the way they serve it looks so appealing, they really take the time to make their platters look beautiful. The corned beef, pastrami, home cooked turkey- all of their meats are delicious and the sandwiches are piled high. My friend ordered the popular Chicken Waldorf salad & drizzled their house dressing on top while I had their home made latkas. Their pickle bar is a big draw for me because it is complimentary with my meal and the variety they offer is pretty amazing. I noticed some people on here have complained about their coffee but I happen to love La Colombe so it tastes great to me. Depending on when or what time of day you go, there may be a little bit of wait but the turnover is usually fast. On the weekends you are offered little samples to try as you wait and it's nice that you can help yourself to a cup of coffee in the deli area. The staff is pretty friendly, usually accommodating and the service is fast. I think it's great when the server is familiar with you- especially if you like your egg white omelets a certain way or prefer your bagel scooped or fruit instead of home fries and don't have to explain your directions every time. I find it frustrating when I go to a restaurant and they aren't flexible with substitutions or can't follow simple instructions. I usually come in the mornings to catch their great breakfast specials. It's a good time to try their nova lox, onions and eggs for a lower price (not lower quality) and most of the specials include the coffee or tea which is nice. All in all, I have to say Hymie's is one of my favorite delis. It's dependable but always has something to offer everyone-- no matter their mood. Pananis, reubens, salads, dinner specials- you name it. They have it!

Cabbage Soup just like my mothers
We recently visited Hymies while staying at our daughter's house. She asked us to check out both delis for her and her husband. They just moved into the neighborhood and havent tried all the local spots yet. She asked us to compare Hymies with Murrays. We both gave Hymies the thumbs up. We told her that everything was superior at Hymies. I started with cabbage soup. It tasted just like my mothers. Then my husband ordered a corned beef sandwich and I ordered pastrami. If you are going to judge a deli it should be in the se 2 offering. Our sandwiches wee piled high with both meats. The Pastrami and corned beef were of excellent quality and taste. We ended with a huge piece of very good carrot cake. Murrays was good pastrami. We both had a pastrami rueben. It was delicious but half the size of Hymies. There were very few french fries on the plate and they were not warm. Hymies pickle bar was a better treat. Murray's cabbage soup was good too, but Hymies was just a little better. We live in Seattle and we will regret not being close enough to return.

Suggestions
Recently stopped going for breakfast. Hymie's has undrinkable coffee, even when watered down. It reminds my husband of coffee he had in the Navy. Fish platters are great, but if you order eggs, the potatoes that come with the platter are not good. Why not hash browns instead of large, greasy chunks? Improvements of these two things would bring me back.

Great
Our family has consistently found the staff to be incredibly friendly and attentive while the menu is vast and the food fantastic. The bakery is terrific too. I'm shaking my head at these negative reviews.... Keep up the great work you do, Hymie's.

Great in delivery
I order Hymie's at work. Greatest omelets. The food is generally very good and I wasn't disappointed. I have to say, prices range from very cheap to very expensive depending on the items. For example I was expecting more for a $15 nova lox platter but I had a HUGE (and I mean huge like one pound) slice of chocolate cake for $6.
