I read the review below and have to say, I totally diagree. My husband and I have eaten at Jake's several times and have always enjoyed ourselves. Yes, the staff is young, but that does not mean they are inexperienced. In fact, we have always felt the service to be very polished and unobtrusive. The maître' d really does a nice job working the room and mingling with the guests. He is also very knowledgeable and helpful with the wine list. The food is also superb. I hear they are opening a wine bar next door which should do great in manayunk. Perhaps the previous reviewer had a bad experience or was there on an off night, but should definitely give the place another shot.

I am new to the NWest and heard this was the best restaurant in Manyunk so I took my fiancee there for his birthday on a Saturday night. The place is crammed and loud, but we could have dealt with that. When the host brought us to the table, I sat right in crumbs which were left all over the booth. They placed us in the back by the noisy clueless servers crashing dishes at the wait station which could easily be shielded by a door or curtain. We waited 15 minutes for our inexperienced server to tell us the specials, then take another 15 to bring us wine in which she left cork floating in the glass and then disapperaed until dessert. We were interrupted periodically by unmannered bus boys saying loudly "Clear that ?" and not once greeted with a "Good Evening" or "How is everthing?" Then the valet disappeared and could not find people's keys in the big cardboard box he threw them into in his car. The food was good but the place is run by a bunch of kids who don't bwo the first thing about service. Huge disappointment - amateur all the way. We will head back to Center City if we want a nice meal next time.
