    It took nine years

It's been nine and I have yet to find a good Chinese restaraunt in the Pottstown/Gilbertsville area. I will still have to look for a good one, but I found a great one in Jannie's on Ridge Pike in Royersford. It was their Grand Opening Weekend and from the moment we entered the restaurant, we knew we were in for an experiene. The decor was modern without being cold or austere and the maitre d' who stopped by our table frequently was friendly and helpful. We needed help with the menu so his visits were not the least bit intrusive or annoying. On his second visit he introduced us to the owner and executive chef who answered many of our questions. One question concerned their seafood "rolls" which he said must be exprienced since words would not do. Shortly thereafter we were presented with a full sized portion of their Star Roll. It was excellent, alternatively sweet, hot and tangy. The four of us loved it as we did our entries that followed. Upon completing our meal, the maitre d' introduced us to the chef who prepared the "Star Roll" and two of our entrees, Steak Jannie and the Rainbow Seafood. They still have a few problems to shake out as they have still to receive their liquor license and are not yet prepared for their soon to be extensive deset menu --- the green tea ice cream though was surprisingly good. I was about to give them a 4.5 for value. Yes they were pricey if you consider the cost of the 5-minute to table store front restaurants that abound in this area, but no they are not pricey at all if you go by what some of the better restaurants in the area charge for their fare. We will look forward to coming again and again and again...

    Not recommended

I used to come here all the time when I was growing up. There food was good, the service was good, and it was a good local spot with reliable, consistent quality. I went here for my birthday with my dad. He doesn't eat sushi, but I promised him he could get "real" food, aka hot, cooked food. I ordered sushi, he ordered cooked Chinese food. 20 minutes after placing our order, our server told us the oven wasn't working, so they couldn't serve any Chinese food, but could somehow cook Japanese food. (I don't know why she couldn't have told us the oven was broken before placing our order, but maybe it broke while we were there?) After looking at Japanese selections for 5 minutes, my father decides on an entree. She said they couldn't serve that either. Only sushi. My dad passed on the sushi, and 10 minutes later (45 minutes from being seated) I was finally served my sushi while my dad watched. There was no apology, no comp'd food, no explanation. Just awkward silence. The sushi was ok, but not as good as it used to be. Also, the heat was broken in the restaurant, and it was 55 degrees outside. You're better off getting pre-made sushi at the grocery store 30 feet away. If you have a restaurant, you should be able to provide the items on your menu. Roosevelt Mall is a total disaster, so having a good business is important, because people really have no reason to go to that mall anyway. Sad to say, but after all these years, I'm done with Jannie.

    Best Hot-n-Sour Soup!

Like the title says they have the best hot-n-sour soup I've ever had. I drive from Fishtown to get take-out because I crave their soup. Their food is prepared really well and tastes fresh with nice size portions. Although it's not on the menu, they will make Kung Pao Beef for me and I love it! The Japanese menu is pretty good too, however, I wasn't a fan of the fried katsu dishes- too dry. Nice atmosphere and ambiance!

    Great Food

Jannie has a very nice, clean atmosphere and I've had great service every time I've been there, though you do pay for it because it's a bit high priced. I would like a little more of a selection as far as combos and sushi (specialty rolls). The food is great though! They always keep me coming back!

    Best Chinese

I really love Jannie's food. The service is great. I think the price of food is bit high.
