    Expensive, Poor Tasting Food

The food at JC Chinese Restaurant keeps getting worse and worse. It was good - years ago. But not anymore. Something has changed for the worse. Sometimes their delivery arrives practically cold. No complimentary fried noodles. Only one packet each of Soy Sauce, Mustard, and Duck Sauce. No complimentary Fortune Cookies. If you want hot and spicy seasoning for a dish not advertised as hot and spicy they charge you extra money. They charge extra for everything. The beef in the beef dishes is fatty and gristly. The chicken in the chicken dishes is cheap quality, old, and strong tasting chicken. The scallops are not cleaned properly. Even something as simple as pork with garlic sauce is bad tasting; tough, cheap cut of pork, burnt garlic, no vegetables. Sometimes they don't even send a pint of rice. Most of the soups are made with some sort of gelatin that gets like jello consistency. Many of the sauces on the chicken, beef, and pork dishes also have this gooey gelatin stuff. The curry has this terrible "off" taste. JC's food is, quite simply, not good anymore. All of the food is much too expensive for such poor tasting food. It's a shame. JC's was, at one time, the best Chinese restaurant in Philly. Not any more.

    Good Food gone WRONG

Years ago I used to order from JC's it was one of the best for chinese food. Last evening my children and I wanted the taste of good chinese food so we forego our ordinary takeout place and ordered Take out from JC. The food was disappointing. I paid $35 for 3 containers of food we could barely reconize. The beef and mushrooms looked like a carton for brown slop with mushrooms, the chicken in garlic sauce was so dark we thought it was the beef and the sweet and sour shrimp was already in the sauce so it was just a soggy mess. Oh and i guess to save money we only got one qt of rice to go with our food. But they managed to slurge on the 3 packs of soy sauce, 3 packs of duck sauce and 3 packs of mustard to go with each qt of food I ordered. I told my daughters we will never be ordering from them again

    way too expensive

The food here is slightly above-average, but definintley not worth the price. For all the $$ they charge, they don't even throw in any "extras" : no fortune cookie, no hard noodles for the wonton soup.. ?? anyway, it's a shame because they do have some of the better chicken fried rice around.

JC Chinese Restaurant - Food Quality is Inconsistent.

JC Chinese Restaurant has been in existence for about 50 years in South Philly. We have eaten there for about the last 30 years. JC's used to be the best Chinese Restaurant in Philly. They deliver late at night, and they usually deliver within a reasonable amount of time (30-45 minutes), which means their food is usually still hot in temperature. Here of late, the food quality has continued to become poor quality. I don't know if they have new owners, new management, or if they are starting to buy inferior quality food. sold at a premium price in order to make a greater profit. They are very expensive for a Chinese restaurant. Everything is a la carte. Very expensive for a Chinese place. They only prepare some dishes in pint size, despite the fact that their menu states: "Pints available In Most Dishes." It is pretty much their way or no way. The customer-facing employees on the telephone are extremely nice, but JC's food is currently, in 2009, is of very poor quality. Still, JC is world's better than Johnny Chang's.

    $35 for fried noodles

Basically I paid $35 for fried noodles. Ordered dumpings, didn't know u have to pay for sauce, which is really some tasteless juice. Pineapple and chicken totally uneatable and didn't have vegetables! Only good note, only took 20 minutes to arrive.

i found my new chineese food place

I just ordered food monday night from jc chinese and let me start off by saying my food was here before I even hung up the reciever . I know this doesn't really matter but the delivery guy was a hands down cutie, and he was very nice. well, now onto the food: absolutely incredible. full of flavor and was piping hot. I read some other reviews and all I can say about the price is you get what you pay for and I would have paid double for the food, so all I can say is order away.

the best and always will be

Jc chinees has been my chinese food of choice since I moved to philly. I work late and they deliver til 1am and the food is always fresh and full of flavor and contrary to what other reviewers wrote I have never waited an hour and they're driver is always polite and happy no matter how long I make him wait (broken doorbell lol) he makes my night when he brings me my delicious food and don't forget the phone staff always helpful in suggesting new things.
