    Terrific food & service!

We enjoyed our entire dining experience here. Our salads--Caesar & arugula w/artichokes--were fresh & well-dressed. And the entrees--veal w/shrimp, artichokes & mushrooms and farfalle (which our waitress considerately substituted for risotto upon request) w/shrimps & prawn--were also delicious, especially their sauces. Best of all to me: the gravy--oops, I mean, marinara sauce--on my side of (perfectly al dente) spaghetti was the closest I've tasted to my late grandmother's, the undisputed gravy champion of our family. Thanks, Karina's--we'll be back!

    Poor Value

Paella for 2 was $45. Not enough sauce and not enough for 2. The chicken and sausage was too dry. The goat was way too dry and not good. The servers can not speak good English and are poor communicators. I was still hungry after spending alot and ended up eating a Genos steak sandwaidh,

    Sumptuous Food

Consistently delicious food. I've been to Karina's multiple times and try a variety of the dishes and haven't met one that I didn't like. I do always start out with the argula/artichoke/parmesan shaving salad. And I don't know what balsalmic vinegar they use in their dipping sauce that they give you with their bread, but wish I did so I could replicate that experience at home. The vegetarian selections are positively great comfort food, the seafood dishes are a bit lighter yet equally satisfying. Save room for dessert! Service has not been as consistent as the food, sometimes delightful and warm, sometimes abrasive. Decor is rather South Philly, but none of this detracts from the food.

    Inconsistent hours

I loooove the black pasta. It is superb. But I have been multiple times recently and its always closed before 9! I called and someone answered and said they closed early because no one had come in, but how can people come in if you're closed? Karina's I miss your black pasta!

    Worth the trip!

Excellent food...Best Paella anywhere! A very interesting mix of Italian and Latin [select]ions.. Fresh fish of the day and some very tasy 'regulars." Try the brook trout. Yum! Pasta [select]ions are also terrific...the spinach/riccotta dumplings and the penne caruso are to die for! Do not pass up on the zabaglione with fresh strawberries for dessert. Atmosphere is ordinary but the service and food are memorable....Definitely worth the trip. The only downside is the usual South Philly parking problem.

    A night at Karina's

We were not disappointed in any way when we ate at Karina's.I started off with the insalata dello chef, a salad that was the freshest and most delious salad I had ever had. I then had pollo involtini, which is a stuffed chicken breast with spinach fontina cheese prosciutto in a marsala wine sauce i almost licked my plate. I definitely will be there atleast once a week.

    Great value with nice portions

But lack of vegetarian choices although the Chef is willing to accommodate requests. The Artichoke salad is a good example of fresh ingredients working together in a simple dish allowing each flavor to come through like the texture and saltiness of the parmesan againt the soft peppery greens. The warm bread a perfect accompaniment to the garlicky olive oil and vinegar dip and the salads. The Vitello alla Karina's was a little disappointing with too many sundried tomatoes but the Polli Involtini was wonderful and the mushroom sauce is so delectable, you'll ask for more warm bread to scrape all that sauce from your plate. The dining-room is loud and the decor is certainly "interesting." I'll go back to try some of the Spanish specialties next time.
