this is the place to go! I eat sushi here every week! I recommend the spicy tuna with avocado roll, the volcano roll, and always the crazy sauce!

It has been a year and a half since I last ordered from the all-you-can-eat sushi menu. I knew what the price was, but back then, I felt it was worth the price of $26.95. TODAY it is definitely NOT worth the money. The rolls and handrolls were mostly rice. I think there was enough rice in these handrolls, to equal the amount in a regular 8 piece roll. The roll pieces here, were about the size of a dollar coin, also mostly rice. If there was anything they didn't have, it was substituted without asking. There were a few rolls that were good, but the amount of rice overwhelmed them. This is one place I will not return to for sushi. It's a shame, before I moved away, this was my favorite place for sushi.

Kotatsu offers an all you can eat sushi buffet on select days. The buffet also includes a salad and appetizer bar. Pricing for the buffet is a wallet emptying $27.95. At this price one must really consider "Is it worth it?" The short answer is no. The sushi in subtle ways is watered down. Take for example the beloved Dragon Roll. During the buffet, like many other rolls, is just a california roll with some eel and avacado on top. It should be tempura shrimp. And all the orders of it, it was never even topped with the drizzle of special sauce. They are cutting corners for sure with some of the sushi. The only upside is the fish is of a good quality. What really killed it here though was their use of old rice. It was a little after 9pm and I was there near closing time. Most of my rice was over cooked and mushy to the point of being absolutely unacceptable. At nearly $30 I expect fresh rice. Having a spicy tuna roll with mushy rice is something I'd expect from a local econo sushi place not the supposedly superior Kotatsu. With them putting imitation crab in nearly all the rolls and serving mushy rice I found this all-you-can-eat sushi buffet unpleasant and you can certainly get comparable if not better sushi at other cheaper sushi buffets.

Lots of families at this BYOB. A bit understaffed. Sushi was great.

I absolutely love this restaurant. The food is outstanding. I'm on a mission to dine at all of the establishments in Philadelphia and the Main Line that were in the running for 'Best Sushi.' So far, none have come close to comparing with Kotatsu. The only area in which they have surpassed Kotatsu are their menu prices! Kotatsu has a large menu with a lot of variety! It's a great place for everyone in the family because they don't only serve sushi; it's a steakhouse, sushi bar, and they also serve other traditional Japanese and Chinese items. There is a large selection of sushi available. On the menu, the raw sushi rolls, cooked sushi rolls, vegetarian sushi rolls, and sashimi are all in separate sections so that the "beginner" sushi eater or those with more particular taste will have an easy time selecting something appropriate. There are also extravagant and creative rolls. My favorites are: Volcano roll, Sunset Miami, Hawaiian roll, Rock N Roll, and Crazy roll. That's a lot of favorites! I've never had something on the menu that I didn't like. Kotatsu is well-known for their house salad. They even sell their salad dressing by the pint! The service at Kotatsu is excellent. Everyone is helpful and friendly. I've never experienced negligent or snooty service which are issues about which I have read in reviews for other local Japanese restaurants. The restaurant itself has a versatile atmosphere. It's not overly-fancy, but it is very nice! It's also spacious which is a plus (the sushi bar and regular tables are separated from the side with hibachi). In Kotatsu, I've seen families with young children, couples, college students, high schoolers, etc. It's warm and inviting and you don't need reservations. Try the lunch and dinner buffet on Mondays and Wednesdays. All you can eat sushi (and a variety of other offerings such as salad, edamame, dumplings, egg rolls, and shrimp and vegetable tempura) for a little over $25/person. Enjoy!

I swear, the people of Kotatsu were put on this planet for one purpose, and one purpose only.. to make mouth-watering sushi! Never in my life has the taste from Kotatsu matching anything I have ever had. Truly, an exquisite place to dine. Monday and Wednesday evenings are the best time to go because of their special all-you-can-eat sushi buffet for only $25 per person. All the sushi they make is fair game. Just write down how many rolls of whatever sushi you want on the place card, and within a few minutes, BAM!, they come out with a plate bigger than you with at least $40-60 worth of sushi. Want more? No problem! Order up as many rounds as you can handle. Also to note, tempoura, dumplings, egg rolls, and salad with their award winning ginger dressing is up for grabs as part of this deal. The atmosphere, but most importantly, the food will keep you coming back every week! Enjoy!
