    Can't wait till Spring

I've walked by this place tons of times since I've lived in south Philly, but this is the first time I've visited. They were more than happy to accommodate our over sized bottle of wine, our waitress even polished wine glasses for us. Our party of 5 ordered six dishes all together. Our waitress, after about 10 minutes, dropped off the wine glasses, some water, and chips and a spice sauce, which was the perfect amount to hold us over. Though the food took a while to prepare and serve, it was well worth the wait. Who would have thought that a Mexican joint in south Philly could have the best cheeseburgers? The Quesadillas, though a bit soggy from waiting in the window, turned out to be a delicious treat. Our other friends raved over their meals as well. Desserts, though a bit American, turned out to be the perfect finisher. Cheesecakes :)

    disappointing

I ordered takeout fajitas on Jan. 11, 2009 and I received the most unappetizing food that I have ever bought from a takeout place or eaten in a restaurant. There was very little steak and chicken and the meat that I got was very dry and overcooked. For some reason there were carrots and broccoli in the mix of fajita food. There was no cheese included and only 3 (small) tortillas for the $15 fajita order.

    Best Mexie's in the area

As Az natives, Mexican food is both highly important and highly scrutinized. La Lupe is authentic and fantastic! Stay away if you want some froofy trendy hotspot, this place is the real deal. Highly recommend the goat meat tacos and fried plantains, and the have the best horchata we've found on the East Coast! ¡Muy sabaroso, buen hecho!

    love this place

The best authentic Mexican food I've had in Philadelphia. It's chill to go there for a good fair priced meal, bring your own Coronas. I recommend the chicken chimichanga and steak tacos. Good service, we go there often.

    Mediocre food, mediocre service

I went there with my boyfriend last night, and it was poor. The service was poor! They took an extremely long time to seat and serve us. The food was mediocre and was not comparable to other Mexican restaurants that I have been to in Philly. I would not recommend this place anyone.

    Great Mexican

A great Mexican BYO. Good [select]ion of food and great burritos. Good mole sauce as well. This place is right next to Geno's and Pats Steaks so the parking is a bit rough but well worth it.

This is Real Mexican Home Cooking

La Lupe is the best authentic Mexican food around, and the prices are a bargain. They fresh-make delicious corn tortillas. Lupe's sauces are out of this world -- way better than I've had in Mexico or in supposedly fancier Mexican places in the U.S. Everything is in true Mexican style, The Ameri-Mex standards are also good -- Fajitas, burritos, chile rellenos. Tamales have always been fresh and good. Lupe's menu is huge. They have beef tongue all the time and baked goat (barbacoa) on weekends. One day I went there at about 4:30 P.M. The place was empty except for me and the staff having their meal. Lupe's seems to have a policy of letting them order anything they want from the menu. People had huge bowls of mixed seafood stew, shrimp tostadas, chicken posole, nopales, beef ribs in green sauce, steamed fish with vegetables. I asked my waiter what they were ordering and learned about several dishes that I now get regularly. If you didn't think you liked tongue, or even tripe, try it at Lupe's. You really can't beat this place.
