Ok, watch out
Extremely cramped, very loud, service friendly but difficult, food ok, but be sure to price the specials for they are much more expensive than you would think from the rest of the menu. Byob is best part.

Watch out.
The food here was pretty tasty (above average for mid-range Italian), and generally speaking our service was unexceptional, but perfectly acceptable. What really turned us off was that the pasta special that we ordered was $23 - WELL above the range of the other pastas on the menu (which ran from a range from $11-$15), and the only remotely expensive ingredient was ordinary shrimp. One might argue that it was our fault for not inquiring what the price of the item was before we ordered it - but where's the limit? Simply put, they gouged us. This is the kind of grasping greed that I really hate to see in a small business. We will definitely not return.

Get the Squid Ink Pasta!
Had a wonderful time there the other week, making reservations to go again for my graduation. The squid ink pasta with shrimp was just about the best thing I've had in my life. Gave atmosphere a 4.5 just because the back room they put us in (at their busiest hour) was pretty crowded and we were near a loud, LOUD table of women. Try to go on a quiet night so you can really savor the food!

One of the best Italian dinners for one of the best prices
La Viola never fails to satisfy my graving for Italian and never disappoints anyone i bring there. The food is always great, the service is always wonderful and you simply cannot beat the price. It is one of the best restaurants in the city, especially once you factor in how reasonably priced everything is. Their specials are fantastic and you can't beat BYOB!

Great Little Italian Restaurant!
Based on a friend's recommendation we took my daughter and her 11 friends to La Viola last night (a week night) for her birthday dinner. The hostess was very gracious and sat us even though our entire party was not there yet. The waiters were attentive, accomodated our special needs food wise and constantly filled our water glasses! They even made a dish that was not on the menu for the birthday girl. They did not rush us out but served our meals efficiently. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a low key place to have dinner be it business or pleasure. The restaurant is small and seats were tight but the service and quality of food made up for it. The price was an excellent value as well, it is BYOB and cash only so keep that in mind before heading out. It is a little hard to find but look for the address on a small sign outside the restaurant. A real pleasure - food was delicious and I can't wait to eat there again.

a philadelphia landmark!
i've been here numerous times, on numerous occasions, or no occasion at all, and it is consistently a wonderful experience! the owner is the sweetest man, never have i heard anyone else describe the specials with such excitement! go with a friend, or a few, or a bunch...and enjoy! p.s. best caesar salad in the city. the mushroom appetizer is another crowd pleaser...no matter what, you can't go wrong!
