Great Mexican and Margs
Great Margarita mix, but if you drink more than a pitcher, the financial BYOB benefit is gone. But bring tequila, it's worth it. Also, for Center CIty restaurant week, a good deal (get the pork).

Disappointing Taco Tuesday. Overpriced and Underlit Mexican Food
We had been here once before a few yrs ago and liked it The other day we received an email telling us about $20 Taco Tuesdays, so we made a reservation and four of us went last night. First of all, the place is SO DARK, IT'S LIKE EATING IN A CAVE!! Or the backroom of a leather bar! You literally CAN NOT SEE THE FOOD ON YOUR PLATE! Second, two of us ordered the pork tacos and two of us ordered the chicken. I had the pork, and the piece was miniscule and had a big slimey hunk of FAT on it! Same with the other diner in our party, who ordered the pork. I tasted my friends chicken leg and it was undercooked. We all kept asking each other "what is that on your plate?" as we pointed to things in the pitch black surroundings. We brought our own tequila and they provider mixers which they charged us $13 for, which I thought was pretty tacky. Needless to say, we won't be returning. A very pretentious and unsatisfying meal.

Poor management
Both of us have been here before and had good experiences, so tonight was a surprise. The margaritas and appetizers were fine. We ordered the beef tenderloin - medium, and salmon. Both came very undercooked and were sent back. The beef came back still undercooked, and it was the same piece of meat that was cut into. Salmon was adequate. We asked for the manager, who was also the hostess, and explained the situation. She told us, in an unpleasant tone, that medium meant red inside, and that the way it is cooked depended on how thick the cut of meat was (I guess if we saw the cut of meat before hand, we could have made a better decision?), and that next time, we should order it medium well if we want it pink. 10 minutes later, she came back, and said "So, are we on the same page? Or do you want something else?" We just asked for the check at that point, as it was already a bad experience. They didn't take anything off the check or apologize for the bad experience. We definitely would not come back.

Great Food, Not Service! Crowded Environment
What a shame that such great food was not matched by the service or ambiance. Our server was blatently rude to my husband and the hotesss acted like a bouncer at a ritzy night club...once you are seated it is so tight and cramped that you feel like you are in a cafeteria. We went on a Saturday night and waited over 2 hours because they do not take reservations. I think it is classless to require an $18 minimum per person in an upscale restuarant. I like the BYOB concept but if there had been an opening anywhere else we would have jumped to another restaurant. Great food but will never return due to service and ambiance.

Good Food, Poor Service
The food here is really good. The policies and the attitude of the wait staff could be improved. Like another reviewer, I was turned off by the $18 minimum per guest. I'm 42 years old, I eat out a lot, and I've never heard of anything like that. We asked our server if they could waive the policy, since I was only ordering an appetizer, but my wife ordered a full dinner, and they did waive it. We were ready to walk out if they didn't. Even still, the people who run this restaurant make you feel like it's a privilege to eat there. The cash only policy, the minimum, and the unfriendly wait staff all combine to make the place less enjoyable. It's really a shame, because the food is great. We were there on a Saturday night, and there were empty tables at Lolita while El Vez had a 45 minute wait, so maybe their unfriendly policies are catching up with them.

Lolita is a Stinka.
First off: this place has the gall to require the patron to order a minimum of $18 worth of food. Say wha?! Second: it's cash only, which is annoying. Finally, I'd be hard pressed to think of a time when I encountered poorer service--ranging from the hostess, to the expediters, to the infuriatingly rude waitress. Just. Don't. Go.
