    Great food, poor service

The mushroom pizza was one of the best I've had. Crust was perfectly crisp, and it had just enough sauce. The waitstaff on the other hand was horrid. My salad was taken from me literally mid bite, and the manager/owner caused a massive scene with a larger group on our way out the door, he actually told them he would only seat six people (of the ten or so there) or they could leave. I will never again set foot in a place where customer service is such a low priority.

Don't believe all the reviews you read !!

Strange title, I know! I read the reviews on this site, and was rather shocked at how about half complained of terrible service (even rude and violent!!)... I must say, it almost deterred me from going there with my foreign wife and in-laws, as I didn't want them to have an unpleasant experience. We decided to try it, despite the very negative reviews. We were a party of 6, and we requested a table outside. However, the tables outside were only for four. At first, the waitress said that it would not be possible, but then the owner, who is quite a character, said that he could accomodate us, and he set us up with a table. What I gathered is that he enjoys very much his role as restauranteur, and if you "play by his rules", he'll take care of you. We were given a bruschetta on the house, and then very much enjoyed our fresh salads and flavorful pizzas. The waitress was patient and attentive, and the lady who brought us plates and water was courteous and friendly. Overall, the experience was extremely pleasant, and everyone left satiated and content. I don't know exactly what happened with the other diners' experiences, and it is too bad that they felt mistreated, but our experience was more than enjoyable, and we will surely be back!!

needs lots of discretionary income and little taste in pizza

Pizza was just ok however, the pizza prices are astronomical. Additionally, who ever heard of a buying a domestic draft beer at a Philadelphia pizza place for $5 plus. Crazy....

Great Food - Pretty good service

First of all, the food here is AWESOME...some of the best pizza I've had in Philly. Twice they made small errors in my orders and made up for it by giving us all kinds of free food-definitely good business! The staff is generally pretty nice, but every once in a while you get the whole annoyed-hipster-attitude thing. The quality of the food is worth it though, and I will definitely keep going back for more-

    I liked it

Overall, I liked this place, the atmosphere was good for a small local pizza place, the waiter was nice enough, quick and correct. The food and price was right, the menu was big enough. It's exactly what it claims to be, a low key, byob pizza place. The crust is excellent, the veggies were fresh, too much cheese though

    Child friendly? No!

I was party to a disgraceful episode at this pizza restaurant. Following a request by a customer with children for space for a stroller, the customer was told to get out of the restaurant and take his (profanity) children with him. This episode was followed by a fist fight in which the customer was beaten about the face and eyes. The children were petrified by this violence as was I. Noteworthy, a number of other patrons left the restaurant sickened by the hostility they witnessed. I cannot recommend Mama Palma to anybody.

    Not At All Family Friendly

I went there with my family although they served water in sippy cups they were very unfriendly. They made us wake our sleeping baby as they would not allow strollers in the restaurant. When the baby woke up we placed her in a highchair and were cursed out (yes in front of the kids) by the owner for not moving her fast enough.
