    We love Marathon Grill

We love the chicken quesadilla's at Marathon Grill. My husband loved the fish quesadilla but they just took them off the menu. We had no problem with service. Great rice pudding, too. The chicken quesadillas are the best I've ever had anywhere.

    Poor service

The service here stinks, and i cant differentiate the taste of their burger from their salad. the food is bland. The only reason this place is still in business is because it has an amazing location and good pricepoint for food.

Its a must any time we are in Philly

We eat at Marathon whenever we are visiting my sister in Philadelphia, and always have great experiences! Every friend we've ever sent there feels the same way. We only wish they would open a location in our neck of the woods!

    Lucky us

5 of us recently went for lunch before going to see the King Tut exhibit. We arrived just before noon and were promptly seated outside on a lovely day. Our waitress was wonderful and the food was really good. Glad we didn't listen to the reviews. Lucky us

    I concur...

This place is, as other reviewers have mentioned, in quite a convenient location. Because of this, I feel that the restaurant doesn't place too much emphasis on customer service, because they know they'll get a steady crowd anyway- which is unfortunate. The food is okay at best, and the service definitely leaves something to be desired. They are slow to come to your table, preferring to chat with each other in the back room or by the hostess podium. What's most irritating about this place is their food management- there are many times when they have run out of things on the menu, and some items are never there. And I mean never - try ordering the lemony pound cake ice cream sundae some time, you'll see what I mean. I don't even know why they have it on the menu. Another example of that- one night I went for dinner and ordered tuna steak, which they were out of. I changed it to salmon, which they were also out of. I finally had to settle for a turkey burger, which came out to me cold! It's just annoying, because all you want to do is just get in, eat, and get out, but the less-than-enthusiastic service makes it hard for you to do that. Like one other reviewer on here, I often find myself asking why I go back. On a good note, they make excellent shrimp quesadillas, and their matzoh soup is good. And they usually have one server on duty who does their job right: my experiences haven't all been bad. But the bad ones do outnumber the good.

Service really needs to wake up

You make a choice to be a waiter/ waitress (and i am one) and no one should have to tell you to put a little effort into it. They get orders wrong all of the time, they don't care, they're not attentive, and they don't hustle at all. It's a shame because the food is great. They need a new staff because they have a group that simply doesn't want to be there.

    Disappointed

I've gone to this particular Marathon a number of times. I'd say 2/3rds of the times I've encountered some sort of problem that left me wishing I had gone somewhere else. The reason why I've gone back so many times is its in a very convenient location, right on the corner of UPenn's campus, they have a wide variety of food that you can customize to your liking, the atmosphere in there isn't so bad, and the food is sometimes decent. But the service can be poor sometimes. One night a large group of my friends and I had gone for my birthday. They had to split us up into two separate tables which is fine since we had a fairly large group. Though we were right next to each other and one party, we had two different waitresses. The waitress from my table was slow to bring out water and drinks. Also we were sitting around for a good amount of time wondering when she'd be by to take our orders, meanwhile the other table had already received appetizers. Finally after our entrees are out, we discover that some of the food is not what we ordered! By this time my friends and I just want to eat, pay our bill, and try to enjoy the rest of the night else where. Upon receiving our check, we discover the bill to be unusually high. Since we had a large party, gratuity is included in the bill, however whatever reason she had charged gratuity twice. By the time we got the bill straightened out, the other table had long finished their dinners and had been waiting for a fair amount of time. Dining at this Marathon is really hit or miss, the other table would have had a great time had they not had to wait for us for so long. If you decide to eat there, pray that you get a server that knows what s/he is doing.
