Benchmark
My husband and I are neighborhood fans of Monsu for a more than a year now, and we just had ANOTHER perfect meal! When you dine frequently at an establishment, it can be hard to separate the overall experience from the food...well, it's safe to say that tonight, after having the always impeccable service and a truly MEMORABLE meal, that we're sure that the food is the star! We shared grilled sardines, gnocchi , and the stuffed swordfish. The food was perfect - sardines were moist, accompanying salad was the perfect complement; the gnocchi were (as always) feathery light not over or under done with blush sauce and crabmeat; the swordfish was unlike anything I've ever had - unique in the best way and a riff on fish that was totally new to us both!! We sat outside, chatted w our table neighbors, and had a most delicious night! This place is a gem. The flavors are strong, unique and distinct. The staff is courteous, accommodating and professional. Monsu is an absolute must!

Unexpected Delight
My husband and I were in town on the way back from the OBX. We asked at a local cheese shop where we could go locally for a deliscious reasonably priced Italian meal I had the salad (which I hope to get a recipe for the dressing),,mussels, ribbon pasta, with artichoke hearts, my husband had the pork we both had dessert(outstanding)I had the flourless chocolate torte with salted caramel,my husband had the cannolli. The service was impeccable, the waitress was very knowledgable about the menu and did an excellent job of explaining the dishes to us laymen. It is BYOB and cash only. We will definitely be back when we visit our son again.

Disappointed
Highly recommended by locals but greatly disappointed! Food was flavorless except for salt! Not many choices, one salad? Sicilian food has been a good experience in Baltimore, New Jersey and Sicily so I have sampled the best! Not here , very sad! I must say the flour less tart was good! So disappointed!

Fabulous food and safe for celiacs
Many restaurants have excellent food. Some have good service, as well. A very few seem willing to take the time to make sure someone with significant food allergies/intolerance can eat safely. Mondu manages all of these beautifully. My son and I enjoyed a truly delicious meal here. I have celiac disease (gluten intolerance) and the waiter and the kitchen were fabulous in accommodating me without leaving me feeling like I had been deprived in any way. The appetizer with snails was so delicious, we considered licking the bowl it came in. The flourless chocolate tart was rich and decadent without being unpleasantly heavy, as these can be. Everything in between was every bit as good. I can't say enough about the kindness of the staff, from the hostess who managed to slip us in due to a cancellation to the wait staff who were careful to separate our gluten- and non-gluten food. Highly recommended. I hope you enjoy your meal as much as we did; we'll definitely be back.

delicious and friendly Sicilian in Italian Market
On the corner of 9th and Christian, in the thick of the Italian Market, this new Sicilian restaurant is a welcome addition to the area. Open for brunch 11-2 and dinner 5-10, the friendly staff and great food are terrific. The table got housemade foccacia with olive oil and delicious ricotta cheese -- wonderful! We had gnocchi and an omelet. Both were delicious. We were too full to try any of the desserts, but we'll definitely be back. BYO, Cash Only.

An unexpected surprise
My husband and I had dinner at Monsu tonight. It was totally unplanned and we could not be happier with our meal or our dining experience. The staff was helpful, friendly and accomodating. We had come from a Phillies game so were not exactly dressed for dinner. Despite that, the staff made us feel welcome and were very helpful. (even provided me reading classes to see the menu) They directed us to an ATM and made menu recommendations. We ordered the scallops appetitzer, which was delicious. We were treated to complimentary octopus appetizer that was very good. For dinner we had lasagna which we both enjoyed very much. Everything was very well presented. We can't wait to go back (next time properly dressed for a Saturday evening out).

Very disappointed! Sicilian cooking at it's poorest
I took my Sicilian father there for dinner. I can't believe I was fooled by the reviews. I know food and trust me I think Olive Garden might be tastier. The rice Aranci was the most disappointing thing I have ever had! I can't believe the chef let it leave the kitchen. The food was served room temperature. The entrees were slow to come out and the service was poor. The hostess was nice but that's not enough to make a restaurant.
