My cousins and I recently saw a play in Philly over the weekend and after the show we decided to eat at Ms. Tootsie's Cafe. We are from Maryland and did not know what to expect from a Philly soul food cafe. Well I was pleasantly suprise by the atmosphere of the cafe. I was so used to eating soul food at more "casual" cafes. But Ms. Tootsie's was total new and welcomed experience! The decor was stunt and so elegant!!. Needless to say that the food was "Spot On". My mouth was in the "Dirty South" and my body was in pure elegance and they both were in heaven. Thank you Ms. Tootsie (Philly) for showing this Maryland a wonderful time. I will be back!!!

I recently took my friend to Ms. Tootsie's for a birthday gift. A better gift I couldn't have purchased. Every morsel was delightful. Between the two of us we tasted the caesar salad with salmon and the fried chicken (like momma used to make) and we had 4 of the best sides I have ever tasted at any soul food restaurant. I know the food is not for the calorie conscious but occasionally you must remind yourself why life is worth living!

I dined at Ms. Tootsie's this past weekend and I have nothing but great things to say about it. From the time I arrived to the time I left the experience was great. I love the new atmosphere waiting in the RBL before dining. We waited a mere 20 minutes. What good restaurant don't you wait. We were escorted over to the dining area by the lovely Hostess Karen. She was pleasant and very accomodating. Once seated in the dining area. We were greeted by our Waitress Tammy. She was informative and also very knowledgeable about the selections on the menu. We asked her to recommend something and she suggested the three green lime chicken salad as the appetizer. Then she suggested the southern fried chicken breast with collard greens and that knock yo momma out macaroni & cheese. Of course that came with the hot corn muffins and the tropical blend iced tea. For dessert, Tammy recommended the Sweet Potato Cheesecake. We didn't finish it all, but it was definitely the bomb. We left the restaurant and went back over to the RBL for after dinner drinks where we were greeted by Rian the Manager who treated us with VIP service (she was three words, fab-u-lous). I recommend you try Ms. Tootsie soon. Its a definite must try for your calendars.

Ms. Tootsie's Soul Food Cafe is the best soul food this side of heaven. I visited the restuarant maybe a week ago. The atmosphere was great and the food was off the chain. I dined on the smothered pork chops and my sides included rice & gravy and the cabbage w/ pepper medley. The pork chops were tender to the cut and smothered in that golden tasty gravy. I also had to have some of that cheesy macaroni & cheese it was delicious. The famous tropical blend ice tea was sweet and cooling. I ordered the sock it to me lemon butter pound cake and was so full from the entree that I had to take it home. I recommend that you hurry up and get over to Ms. Tootsie's and give them a try. You have never experienced dining like this. The price was moderate and the staff was friendly and courteous.

I live on South St. Just recently moved. I took my mom and grandmom there and we all loved it!! Their special iced tea comes in a take home sports bottle, which I liked. The fried whiting, mac and cheese, greens, and candied sweets were delicious. I am making my mouth water as I speak about it. I think I am getting some Ms. Tootsie's tonight!

At my second visit to Ms. Tootsie's, I was anxious to enjoy the food. We visited on 8/5/06 and it was very hot in the restaurant. Very little air flowing. The wait staff was very friendly and informative. The food, however, wasn't very good. My husband and I ordered the smothered pork chops only to find out they had just one order left. He chose the Whiting and I kept the pork chops. When they arrived, all looked well. When I went to cut them, I couldn't. They were so tough, the table knife wouldn't cut them. I removed the sauce from them to find they were red on the top. I passed them to my husband to cut, and he couldn't cut them. I informed the waitress who took them back for fried chicken. She told me the kitchen manager said it would be 25 minutes for the chicken and I could get it in a "to go box". In other words, you are tying up a table, leave. It was very hot inside the restaurant too.
