Best soul food in Philly

First time, although I've heard negative things, I decided to try for myself. Food was ok (what I ordered) but the service is Very Poor (A Customer Service class is very much needed). Owner needs to rethink interview questions when hiring.

Good; fried catfish, mac&cheese, fried chicken, yams. Not so good; service, salt content too high(greens, cabbage). Crab cake very salty and not lumb crab meat like i was told by the waitress. Do not order the shrimp&grits(we sent it back) it is a pile of non-creamy grits with some cheese sprinkled on top(not melted) and 5-6 fried shrimp on the plate, no sauce, gravy or onions. Hey chef less salt and try using old bay seasoning in the crab cakes .

went there on a sunday afternoon around 1 pm so it wasn't crowded and we were seated right away. once we ordered, the food took way too long to arrive at the table. yams were good, mac n cheese was nothing to brag about, tilapia was ok, chicken breast was dry. overall, the experience was just ok. i was glad i had a groupon because it definitely wasn't worth the $50 for the two of us. the server was great, though

Used to stand outside and wait hours for a seat when they were small and hadn't bought the building next door yet. Food was worth the wait. With the expansion came prices for food that are below par and are nowhere near their 5 star prices. The original site had a turkey wing mac and cheese and collard green dinner that was to die for. The sides had to come in side bowls, thats how large and delicious the wings were. Now, everything fits on one plate. The greens were salty last time I ate there. The mac and cheese was beyond dry. And the liquid diabetes they serve as "ice tea" is just powder mix with some sugar and a water melon wedge.

Celebrated our daughter's 25th birthday last night at Ms. Tootsie's. We were seated almost immediately once all our guests arrived. The food was excellent as usual (we've been there before) and the server we were blessed with (Bianca) was superb! Thanks for helping us have such a beautiful & fun celebration for our family. Highly recommend Ms. Tootise's & we'll definitely be returning again & again. Great touch with the hosts & hostesses singing Happy Birthday!
