New Kimono

It was 80 degrees outside and the place had no air conditioning. I was the only person in the place yet it took 15 minutes before someone provided any service. The place is rundown and dingy. Besides that, the actual food was pretty good - which explains why there was a lot of take out business. Also, they don't accept AMEX!

first time here for our family; staff was super patient and kind with our loud young kids; was seated at large booth near the front door and it's was pretty drafty (in winter) so will not sit there next time; udon soup broth was rather bland (other than it being quiet strong on the white pepper), and the pot of green tea we ordered uses tap water (very metallic taste) - no fruit juice availalbe as a beverage for the kids though; but the sushi was excellent and desert was delish (tempura banana doesn't come with sauce or sugar dusting so we just opened a packet of sugar on the plate and dipped it right in); nice salads too (loved the fresh ginger dressing; next time will try Thai and Chinese (loads of choices but we wanted to do Japanese cuisine this time only)

New Kimono has that neighborhood restaurant kind of feel, which on a chilly Saturday night was very welcome. Even though it was moderately busy, there was a atmosphere of calm, thanks in part to the chill music in the background. The food here (we had sushi) is wonderful - high quality, well prepared and nicely presented. Prices are moderate and service is attentive. They offer Chinese and some Thai as well, so the menu is not vast. If you are looking for fancy-schmancy, this is not it. However if you want a comfortable, low-key, satisfying dining experience that will make you feel happy when you leave, make plans to visit.

I order sushi for take out here once a week. I call this my "everyday" sushi place. The sushi is excellent and very reasonably priced compared to other sushi houses nearby and in the city. There are other sushi places I prefer, but with the friendly service and great prices this will always be my take out place. I've had the chinese food here as well, and that is also quite good.

I had doubts initially, as they serve many types of Asian cuisine, but I was FLOORED by the quality of the sushi at New Kimono. I usually get take out, and service is fast and friendly. The cuts of fish are delicious - the salmon and tuna sashimi are phenomenal, none of those cheap cuts. And the portions are very generous. I have also tried some of the other dishes (Thai, etc) and those are great as well, but really the thing to come here for is the Japanese food, and the raw fish in particular. You will not be disappointed.

My boyfriend and I usually go here about once a week. We have been to many sushi places, and this is by far our favorite. Its BYO which is great, and its usually very quiet, so its a great date place. The food also comes out very fast, which is a plus! My boyfriend always gets the Lobster roll (not on the menu, but its always a special on the board when you walk in), along with sesame chicken which is the best i've ever tasted. I also reccommend the crisp roll (spicy crab and crunch), terriaki chicken, and spicy salmon crunch. The only thing I ever had that I didn't enjoy were the vegetable dumplings, they tasted like they had been frozen for a while and then quickly cooked. Other than that its the best sushi/chinese for your money. Enjoy!!

The food is fantastic if you order sushi, and good if you order chinese, the freindly service is what you should expect from every restaurant . I would reccomend this restaurant to every sushi geek and all familys who want to enjoy a great meal at a fair price!!!
