Less than impressive food
Went recently and was disappointed with the food. Had a crabcake special that was all filler and deep fried. Pulled pork BBQ was ok, but nothing special. The best thing about new wave is the large beer selection. Good variety of beers on tap and in bottle. Compared to other places in the area (Royal Tavern), food and atmosphere aren't as good. Would go again only for drinks and/or watch a game or play Quizzo.

One of my favorite watering holes.
New Wave is one of my favorite watering holes. They must have changed chef's recently, though, because the food wasn't as good last time I was there. But I never fail to have a good time. Great staff and oweners. Great place to root for our Philly teams with a cold pint.

Seriously, the best place in philly
This place is like my second home. The food NEVER disappoints. The hummus is the BEST in the city. In the summer you can sit outside and people watch or sit inside, catch a game, play some pool or sit at the bar and relax. AMAZING!!!!

Great food, no atmosphere
New Wave offer a menu of reliable comfort food with a twist, excellently prepared. Their braised chicken cheesesteak, e.g.: chicken braised in wine, topped with a bit of brie, and smothered in a wild mushroom saute in natural juices--heaven! I think a 3$ rating is a bit high--this is the kind of place where you can get lamb chops served perfectly for $18, sure, but you can also get a quite satisfying meal (say, chicken mushroom pot pie served with a green salad) for about $10. Lots of nightly specials, too. The only thing I'm not crazy about is the atmosphere--sports bar meets fern bar meets kinda divy place. (Which is why I appreciate the takeout!)
