It Is the King
My friends and I have recently concluded a 43 stop tour of Philly Steak joints and after all of them I have to say we all love Pat's the best. We all did extensive research at our culinary school library and a real cheesesteak is NOT MADE WITH AMERICAN OR PROVO. Don't waste your time going anywhere else (btw Geno's ranked 17th on our list). Get a birch beer and a steak and enjoy.

At least it's not the king of beers.
The full name of Pat's King of Steaks should give you some warning that you're not getting a decent cheesesteak. Let's start off by recognizing real cheesesteaks are made with american or provolone, not with cheese whiz. Okay, not Pat's does a few things right. The bread is good, the fried onions are good, even the meat is well, not bad. However, the preparation is awful.

Best cheesesteak in the world
As a restaurant reviewer in NYC and a person who has lived in Philadelphia, this is the best place to experience the true essence of Philadelphia, the Philadelphia cheesesteak, and all that outdoor, cheap and delicious eating has to offer. If you don't believe me, go to Pat's at 3 am or 10 am and see that there's a line. A life without Pat's is a life not worth living.

Another Tourist Trap
Like Geno's, this place is for out-of-towners and post-bar revelers hankering for cheesesteaks. You can get a better cheesesteak in any number of places.

Try Other Places and Compare
I have respect for the folks at Pats for having been in business for so long, but honestly folks there are places that are better. Pats was great when they were damm near the only kid in town, but others do it better. I am not saying don't go to Pats, but try them and judge against others. Too much of an out of town tourist joint.
