Before I start, I'll say that because I am Italian and am used to homemade Italian cuisine, I am a pretty tough critic when it comes to dining at an Italian restaurant. However, I had heard great things about Penne, so I went very excited to see what all the hype was about... My boyfriend took me there one evening and unfortunately, we were both very disappointed. He had been there a few times and really enjoyed the food, but this time it just wasn't the same. In my opinion, the food was overpriced and didn't taste like real Italian cuisine (i.e. lots of sauce, flavor), but was rather bland. After not eating much of my entree, I was hopeful that dessert would be good. What a disappointment! I ordered the cannoli with a dark chocolate and cherry filling and it was the worst one I had ever had. No flavor whatsoever. Needless to say, it would be a long time before I gave Penne a second chance.

Penne food is excellent. Pastas are out of this world.

I love the pasta dishes. Especially the unique and creative ones. My favorite is the sweet potatoe ravioli w/ gorganzola cream sauce and honeyed walnuts. The gorganzola is an excellent counterbalance to the sweetness of the potatoes and walnutes. very satisfying. The mashed potatoes are excellent as well. The brand of coffee they used to use was much better though and the wine is overpriced as are most places. Some of the servers seem a bit lazy. Talking on their cells at the bar while the food expeditor serves every course doesn't make me want to even tip them. All in all this place is excellent and worth the visit.

Went here on a recommendation from and it was great. Food was rich and the gnocchi melted in my mouth. Pumpkin ravioli special was rich but not overpowering. Really liked the idea of wine flights, I had the Northern White, while my girlfriend had the chiantis. The service was extremely slow though, maybe it is because I am used to a NYC pace. At the end of the end of the night the manager and another waitress saw we were starting to get frustrated and stepped in taking our dessert order and made sure the rest of our evening was smooth. Overall a great find if you are by the Penn campus. Bill was $115 for two (with tip and tax), very reasonable in my opinion.
