The pope is a decent neighborhood bar but that's where it stops. If you are more than say, 5 blocks away don't bother coming; find an equally unimpressive OR better bar near your place. It's set up poorly for socialization. The bar area is congested. If you come with a group of friends it's alright because you'll be isolated with only them and no one else will talk to you. Mainly it's just too dark, so forget about meeting new people. Good draft beer and good wings---but otherwise, subpar food.

Unimpressed. Bland food.. Tried most things on the menu, all seemed poorly executed. Good luck getting served and even getting past the bouncers.. Gave me a hard time because my 07' license did not include a beard and they insisted it wasn't me at first....I'm being serious. Avoid this place.

Finally got a chance to visit POPE yesterday. Cool atmosphere, great (but a little loud) music. Beer selection is eclectic, and very good, including a rare sighting of Russian River!! Food was above average for a pub, fish & chips could have been crispier but flavor was right on. Burger was perfect, Mac & Cheese above average, and the fries were very tasty. Will definitely be back.

I was dissapointed in this place, and I gave it 5 tries. Servers are not rude but a bit distant, meaning you never see them. The food is so bland and limited for a gastropub, nothing stands out and everything seemed boring. I have tried alot on the menu and have never been impressed. Decent beer selection though. Give it a shot as a hangout with friends but don't expect it to be your new favorite place.

get the nachos. they give you tons of guacamole. LOTS of beer selection

young hipster crowed, very laid back atmosphere, good bar food, reasonably priced, vegetarian friendly (as many places in south philly are) just a good value add to the e passyunk neighborhood
