    Pleasantly surprised!

My husband and I were hesitant to go to Raw due to some poor reviews. We were pleasantly surprised to have a wonderful dinner! The service was impeccable; everyone was attentive, friendly and helpful. Our drinks were always filled and our questions were quickly answered. We had a small error with our order and brought it to the waitress' attention AFTER we ate everything. We told her we were not complaining (we obviously liked it!), but just wanted their cook to be aware of the problem. She was immediately apologetic and embarrassed. The manager appeared and said he would cover our entire check. We tried to tell him we were not upset, but he insisted and was very friendly in the process. They truly wanted us to leave happy (even though we already were!). While waiting for our banana dessert (light and delicious!), the chef sent over a beautiful platter of seared Chilean sea bass. (I can't remember the name of the dish, so I'll settle for the description.) It was delicate, warm and absolutely delicious. We would have never ordered such a special dish, but felt honored to receive and try it! The moment we finished the sea bass, our dessert was at our table. We were pleasantly surprised and would recommend this restaurant to others. Miso soup: very good, not watered down Sushi Raw Deluxe platter: my husband and I shared it...good amount for one hungry person or two people that are not too hungry Banana something dessert (name??) with green tea ice cream: wonderful! not too heavy, even though it was fried Is the restaurant expensive? yes, pretty expensive. You're paying for great sushi AND great atmosphere. But with excellent service like we received, we think it's worth a couple extra bucks.

    Unfortunately, this place is subpar

Went in here last night with my boyfriend for some sushi and upon walking in realized, wow, this place is trying way too hard. Late 90s dance music, "hip" decor, and overly zealous (read: phony) waitstaff. We stayed because we were sure at least the food would be good. We ordered seaweed salads, miso soup, and fried pork gyoza to start. The salads were no better than the kind you get at a cheap takeaway sushi joint, the miso soup was way too salty, and our gyoza were frozen in the middle! We had to send them back. Our waitress was nice enough, but there was no apology for our frozen dumplings-from-a-bag, and I thought that was a sign of poor customer service. Onto the sushi: we got a standard sushi deluxe platter. Well, it was standard all right, and for those prices, we were honestly expecting a lot more. The fish tasted watery at best, freezer-burned at worst. The salmon in particular had a distinct dishwater taste. Clearly not the freshest sushi and certainly inexcusable at this price point. All in all, Raw just goes to show that if you throw some West Elm light fixtures on dark red wall, light a few candles and put on some Massive Attack, you are able to get by serving fast food sushi for an arm and a leg. Definitely not worth it.

    try the courtyard!

the best rolls in philly can now be enjoyed outdoors! call ahead to make sure their outdoor courtyard space is open. open to the sky, the courtyard has heat lamps for chilly nights. soft comfortable seats are available, and the tiny bar in the back is secluded & less crowded than the one found inside. i love bringing out-of-town friends to raw!

    Great lunch spot

I went there for lunch one day with some co-workers and I must say that their bento box lunches are a great deal. I got the spicy tuna roll combo lunch and there was a lot of food. It's a great way to sample multiple things on the menu without ordering a lot. The miso soup was actually pretty good too and I usually don't like miso soup. The negimaki was a little tough for my taste but the rest of the meal was great. I would definitely recommend Raw!

    Best in Philly

I live in Manhattan and my wife and I are trying to think of a reason to come to Philly just to go back to RAW. Best special rolls I have ever had, great atmosphere, great drinks, and fairly priced. Congratulations 1225 RAW, you are the best attraction in all of Philadelphia.

    wonderfull atmosphere,even better sushi!

Now i have to say this was by far the most delightful experience at a sushi bar i have ever had! And i have worked in the resturant business a long time and this was great service, great sushi, and a great atmosphere! the people above who dislike this place and complain about the price should stop eating sushi at the mall!.Take my word for it and try the green river roll with spicey sauce and the shrimp tempura roll both seem to be so popular on the special menu they should make them steady features on the regular menu! Also a large selection of sake and wine make for a great time no matter what the budget...take my advice go to Raw you wont regret it!

    The best restaurant ever!

The best sushi in philly hands down, don't listen to any of the other reviews, this is the best sushi bar in the city.
