I'm going to keep this sweet and simple; this place is mediocre at best. As one of the other reviewers pointed out, quantity doesn't always equal quality. That is certainly the case here. The crab cakes are good, but in my opinion it ends there. The Italian dishes are certainly sub par and its not like you leave thinking, well it was such a bargain that it all equals out. The atmosphere leaves much to be desired, and the place is LOUD. It was difficult to even have a conversation a couple of times I was there. I gave it a few chances as I hear so many people sing the praises of the restaurant; each time I was very underwhelmed and in fact disappointed. This reminds me somewhat of an Olive Garden. And this is why there are such a variety of restaurants out there; something for everyone's taste. I'm glad that's the case. I however prefer good authentic Italian cooking, not Olive Garden like mass produced food.

I don't understand all of the great chatter about this place. One reviewer thinks the place is wonderful due to portion size. Sometimes, more of a bad thing is still a bad thing. I see all of the local accolades and "Best Of" awards and ask myself simply, HOW? On a not so busy night recently I stopped by with 5 other family members. The best I can say is their Crab Cake platter and Pretzel / Crab Cake Appetizer was very good, probably even excellent. The rest of the meals were sub-par. The Onion Ring Crab Cake Appetizer sounded like a nice pairing. It would have been tasty if not for the overly sweet tomato blush sauce the app sat in. Each forkful tasted like a teaspoon of sugar. Same thing with the Lobster ravioli platter. Basically, we paid a lot of money for these inedible dishes. The service was horrible but I still gave my standard 20 % tip. Our server was fairly incompetent. It started with the opening of the wine, the lapses of bringing requested water refills and bringing soft drinks. The poor service really became noticeable when a table of four people who arrived ten minutes after us were served their meals even before we ordered. But, this was no reason to penalize whoever he was splitting tips with. The tables were not very clean and once we placed the napkins on our lap there was this dirty feeling table that we had to put our eating utensils on. What ever happened to clean placemats or paper napkins to act as a buffer between eating utensils and a table that was probably wiped with a dirty kitchen rag. We were seated by the kitchen door; they should seriously think about replacing the hinges. There was this loud banging sound from the doors each time one of the wait staff walked in and out. It seems like this place is riding high right now but, it will crash and burn if some of these deficiencies are not noticed by management. I might return but only if I can convince everyone in the party to only order the crabcake platter.

The crab cakes here are possibly the best I've ever had. And I've had many. I can't attest to the rest of the menu, because I will always get the crab cakes. I'll be back. The service was great, not obtrusive, there when I needed something.

My friend and I decided to try this place on Friday night. We actually arrived 20 minutes before they were supposed to close. We felt bad and we were going to leave but the hostess went out of her way to get us to stay so we did. The crab dip was to incredible. My friend had chicken Parmesan and it was huge and very tasty. I had the tortellini special with lump crab meat and it was heaven on a plate. I plan on spreading the word to my friends and family. The other review talks about the server being to friendly... How weird isn't that the kind of service that you want? I even gave a 30% tip I was so impressed! Next time I'll bring wine since its BYOB.

On Saturday evening my friends and family chose Rigatoni's to dine at after a good review from some other friends. I have to say that I was disappointed from the minute I stepped in the door. We were greeted by a hostess that needs to learn that smiling is part of her job. Our server was very friendly with his approach to us when we were seated. His friendliness during the appetizers then through the meal and into dessert became somewhat annoying. As the restaurant became more occupied, we expected to see the server less but this was not the case. The appetizer was only OK. All the items on the plate tasted the same. The onion ring tasted like the chicken finger and so did the other items on the plate. The entre' portion size was good but the quality was not what was expected. One dish had chicken and shrimp in it but the chicken was nothing more than chicken tenders that you get in the supermarket. The chicken was not dressed and still had the blood vessel that runs through it. The shrimp were fried and placed on the outside of the dish like an afterthought. The pasta was beyond Al Dente and tasted like a boxed pasta you make at home. The desserts appeared to be fresh when they were presented to us but again the taste was very ordinary and boxed. I noticed that Rigatoni's was opened for breakfast 5 days a week. Maybe the open time could have been used to prep and prepare the ingredients for the dinner crowd. This establishment is on a busy street in Prospect Park and would be served better if they took more time to prepare items for the guests and provided a better tasting meal for the money.
