Local Eats Heaven
Recently having moved to university city I was quickly reccomended to try Rx. The experiance was fantastic, the restaurant is a small homey place with a great selection on the menu. The food is relatively prices and the quality is absolutely phenominal. Personally I reccomend the Saturday and Sunday brunch which is amazing. Must stop here if your in the West Philly area.

Same ole boring menu, comically overpriced
Like many similar experiences here, mine have been sub-par with the exception of a few dishes. The dinner menu hasn't changed in forever it seems. And $30 for an entree' at a BYOB in West Philly is just plain silly. However the dessert menu is vast for such a small place. Get the sausage trio app if they bring it back and the scrapple w/ apple butter during brunch is scrumptious.

Delightfully Prepared Delicacies
I've been to Rx 3 or 4 times in the last year. Their menu has a diverse selection and I have liked everything I have ordered, plus the samples of my guests dinners. Their chai is perfect with any of their desserts. You do have to be patient when waiting for a table but it is worth it. Also, the servers are always helpful and kind.

Comfort Food for a Gourmande
This is our favorite local restaurant for family celebration dinners: comfort food that is exquisitely prepared, with fresh, local ingredients. We've been bringing our foodie kids here since they were 9 and 6; they are now 13 and 16. The staff treat them like the serious connaisseurs they are and the kids appreciate this ("they don't treat us like kids and give us crappy kids menus"). The owner remembers us, though we only come once or twice a year, and drops by the table to trade opinions on the quality of the spicy pickles, differences between white and dark chocolate, and changes in the neighborhood since he first opened shop. It's a small dining room, so suitable for kids who like to eat and can enjoy a quiet meal. People-watching the Penn crowd can be fun too.

response to West Philly Guy
Hi, I am the owner of Rx. Thanks for your commentary, West Philly Guy, but I think you may have confused Rx with another restaurant. In the seven+ years we have been open, a brie grilled cheese has never appeared on the menu. And porcini mushrooms are well outside our price points. We did serve a handmade pasta with heirloom tomatoes, Oley Valley mushrooms and truffle essence, but that was over two years ago. I would be happy to show you our menu archive if you like. N.B. to MenuPages staff - feel free to take my ratings out of the rankings. I am no more fit to objectively rank Rx than West Philly Guy.

Sorely disappointed vegetarian
I went to Rx twice, hoping that my first experience was an anomaly. Both times, I was met with poor service, and subpar food. Though my omnivorous friends seemed to like their food, mine was bland, at best. At any given time, they only have one, uninspired, vegetarian option. I am pretty easy to please, and enjoy a nice salad. But Rx's only option when I went the first time was a brie grilled cheese with cranberry sauce. I thought - "strange, but it could be good if done well." It wasn't, and just felt like eating a few sticks of butter with fruit jelly. The second time I got a mushroom pasta dish. The only sauce was melted butter and the mushrooms were simple porcinis and flavorless. I won't ever go back again, and will happily bike 40 minutes away for good food at Honey's or Farmacia.

Try their dinners
While the crowds at brunch tend to make the Rx experience trying at times sometimes long waits outside and inconsistent service the best eggs benedict in the city brings us back time and again. Our experience there at dinner time has always been excellent: fresh, flavorful, interesting. And they take reservations so no waiting. Their steak is really fantastic and every fish I've tried there has been great too. Sunday through Thursday they have a fixed price option for 25- 30 dollars depending on what you order, which includes appetizer, main dish and dessert. All of their desserts are home- made the key lime pie is my favorite. And it's a BYOB so you can enjoy a nice bottle of wine with your meal without paying restaurant prices. I love the decor too a weird idea to decorate a restaurant like an old fashioned pharmacy but it works. I'm proud to have it in the neighborhood.
