as close to Italy as you can get!
I love this place. Service is always excellent, and the food is as close to Italy as you can get. I love their other place (L'angolo) too, and this place is just as good if not better. The artichoke appetizer is incredible, so are all the pastas and fish dishes. Definitely one of my favorites in Philly!

Love this place.
Have been here twice and have been blown away by the quality of food and the attentive service. The owner has served us both times and has been incredibly accommodating and gracious, and even offered to make my picky dad something off the menu. The desserts are also fantastic--I believe the owner's wife is the pastry chef.

Love this place!
The food is amazing and the atmosphere is of your own local restaurant. They accomodated a request for a menu item previously served (not on current menu). I have been to this resto twice now and loved it. I hate to write a good review and tell others (my secret) but so want to make sure they continue to get business. A favourite byob of mine now!

so-so
The space is lovely and soothing, but the food was really only average, which is a shame....

disappointed
I just dined here on Friday 1/16/09 at an Employer-sponsored dinner. This was my poorest personal dining experience in Philly after moving here 10 years ago. While I understand that my boss was trying to "economize" by going to a BYOB, too bad this place wasn't a "BYOF" (Bring your own food), instead. The mussel w/chick peas appetizer was tasteless. The chicken cutlet was extremely tough to cut and chew. The talapia resembled a piece of roofing tile, and the pork medallions were the size a US Quarter. A thumbed-sized dallop of mashed potatoes was expected to feed 8 people at our table. We also had to re-order coffee 4x because the 1st three tries witnessed the use of creamer which curdled in our cups.

That old Italian feel...
This place is out of this world. The food is amazing, I come from a family who owns a restaurant, and this place rivals ours. The owner will come out and talk to you, make sure everythings ok, bring out your food if needed. The atmosphere is great. You feel as if your in a little Italian bistro. The prices are not out of control but very much worth the food. I would reccomend Salento to anyone, especially for a special occasion dinner.

If you like L'angolo.....
This second restaurant by the chef/owner of L'angolo is a bit erratic, but the range is from good to excellent....! Ambience and service are unexceptional, but the food is worth a visit.
