So based on the reviews here, I decided to go with my husband here. The place is extremely cramped! They have two huge tables in the middle. So if you're not with a large party at the two tables, you will be seated cramped along the walls. When I went there were there were two very loud groups at both tables. I noticed most of the customers were clearly uncomfortable and annoyed. Our server was super unfriendly from the get go! He didn't smile once and seemed to be very angry. He greeted us with a rude "yeah?". I felt like leaving since it was so loud, but decided to give the place a shot... The food came out very quickly (which I was happy about since I wanted to get out of there!). But it was clearly not freshly made. I have a feeling they quickly microwaved our food and tossed it at us. We had dumplings, wonton soup, and walnut shrimp. The dumplings were mediocre. The soup and walnut shrimp were simply subpar. The shrimp had WAY too much sugar in it and was extremely sweet! My husband and I ate the dumplings and left. We went home and I cooked a decent meal!

My husband and I have been going to Shiao for ten years. We always say we are going to try another place but it always turns out we are craving for something from Shiao's kitchen. After all this time there are things we seen delivered to other tables we want to try! The food is always fresh and the service very good. We've taken groups who end up making it top on their list too.

Went here on recommendation of a friend. Took my mother who was in town visiting. She's from Hong Kong and we all LOVED the food. They have the best Cantonese style fried noodles that we've had either here in NYC or elsewhere in the States. She was very impressed, and I was as well! I've definitely gone back since then. Service was very personable, friendly, and fast.

I ordered take out from Shiao Lan Kung last night for the first time based on the reviews I read here. What a mistake that was. First of all, I ordered 2 soups and only received 1 soup. I was charged for both! Secondly, the appetizers were full of grease and just plain poor. Our entrees were no better. Fish smelled terrible and the chicken was not fully cooked. I would never recommend this place to anyone.

I've been going to Shiao Lan Kung for at least 15 years and the food is always top notch. Like the person above has noted (well almost), I have only been dissapointed once, when they ran out of kan kung (ong choy to chinese and water spinach to us english speakers, though I'll always call it by the Filipino name). The ginger and scallion pork, soft shell crab, the big bowl of all seafood on the menu which is totally escaping me, the rice, the seafood beancurd soup (ask for no mushrooms unless you like straw mushrooms), the salt and pepper squid, kan kung with shrimp paste....The list goes on and on, I have never tried something here and not liked it. And no one who I have ever sent here has been disappointed either, no matter what type of person they are.

This is the best Chinese food I have ever eaten - and I grew up in NYC (which has, of course, fantastic Chinese food). You must try the Salt Baked Shrimp over some Pork Fried Rice. It is downright addictive. I'd love to give you a number of dishes to try, but I haven't gotten past the Salt Baked Shrimp yet... and it's been 3 years so far! :-)

Everything is always fresh. I have been dining in this restaurant for years. I have only been disappointed once. It was durung the winter and the head chef was sick so they did not open that evening. Pan Fried Dumplings, Sizzling Wor Ba, Salt baked Squid, Soft Shell Crabs, Clams in the black bean Sauce...Everything is great here.
