    The ol' Philly 'tude

Thanks to the brother/manager on duty this day we won't bother going here again. That classic philly snarling attitude from a miserable old fart behind the bar almost overshadowed the good service and food. I'm only sorry we hadn't heard about this jackass before we decided to go there after a game - we would have gone elsewhere, and now will.

    Pearl found in an oyster

Snockey's is on my regular rotation, and I am deadly serious when it comes to seafood. They are a local spot, decades old that have not lost touch with their roots to the community. One of the Snockey brothers is always on site and they always are ingratiating, wanting to host you and educate you about your oysters. The shellfish, particualry the oysters are fresh daily. Varietals change weekly, so it is always something new to look forward to. Always seasonal specials which make the prices very reasonable. I have taken so many friends to Snockeys and have yet to have one disappointed.

Go for the shellfish, go elsewhere for everything else.

We split the oyster sampler and got 6 topnecks and 6 cherrystones the oysters and clams were great. fresh crisp solid delicious. downhill from there. snapper soup was watery broth, worst I've ever had, sent it back. oyster stew may have been original, but I think it was just slightly flavored 2% milk. I guess the word ROUX was not around in 1912, same with the white sauce on the mussels w linguine . Do not go to the mens room it is old, filthy, smelly and disgusting. paint peeling and dirty around the door knobs, cracked $9.99 sink bowl, black goo in the grout. I have been in seashore bars with cleaner mens rooms. It must be used by the kitchen staff too. Makes you wonder about the kitchen.

    Please don't waste your money

Oh I remember the days ... On payday Friday our office would get our money together and order the fried shrimp platters , or the fried oyster platters and the food was fabulous. Not today, I don't know what happened but this is not the same recipe from back in the day. Oh Snockey's please find the original recipes

    Authentic Oyster House!

Just returned from Snockey's and I had the best seafood meal ever! I ate almost everything...raw oysters, clams, hardshell crabs and their shad & roe entree off their specials menu. Love the oyster house atmosphere! Love knowing the family/owners are there on premises. Old School--good food at a great price!

    not Mrs. Snockey's Original Stew

I am over 80 and have been going to Snockey's since the original place on South St. Perhaps the poorest Blue Claw crabs in the city. I can cook them better myself. Raw oysters are exceptional, but when they state on the menu that they never changed Mrs. Snockey's oyster stew, it's a boldfaced lie. Today's stew is thin and watery and practically tasteless, except for the oysters themselves. Likewise for overpriced lobster. Absolutely no taste with stingy sides and bad bread. This is South Philly...there's no excuse for that! Beer is always warm even though nothing goes better with shellfish than beer. If you must get your nostalgic fix, go for happy hour and eat at the raw bar. Skip the jumbo lump-less crab cakes and outrageously priced crab-stuffed lobster. Go to Bobby Chez's and buy your own they're cheaper and way better. Snockey's needs to go back to the old days, truly re the original recipes, and serve decent sides.
