    Such a great little place

Anyone who doesn't like it there is crazy! Southwark is such a wonderful spot! People who think the staff is rude must not get their humor. I have always had a wonderful time every single time I have gone there! Food, staff, everything is stellar. If you have a problem with this place it is you, not them!

    Over promise and under deliver

I tell everyone I know to stay away from this place. They do a great job at making the food sound awesome on the menubut when it's served it is anything but what they promise. The servers are rude and the bartenders are obnoxious if you order a drink you have never tried before and want to ask questions about it they become disrespectful as if-how dare you not know what you are ordering. What really turned me off on this place and was the final straw is if you are with a small group and start having fun make sure you do not laugh to loud or you will be asked to quiet down and/or leave-yes I've seen this happen more than once, not for fighting, not for swearing, not for being intoxicated...but for laughing to loud!

Always one to come back to

I rarely write in but after reading the last review, I decided to throw in my opinion. If you want a place that constantly refreshes its menu, has exceptionally well versed staff and bar staff that have made their trade into an art and science of mixology then this is the place for you.The food has rarely disappointed, with the very odd exception, and that is my taste not the lack of care from the kitchen. My advice is listen to the staff and read the menu, and you can't go wrong. The other fantastic thing of being part of the Southwark crowd is that you have an owner that wants you to have the best time you can. I have witnessed on a couple of occasions where Kip the co-owner has politely dealt with a crowd that was getting worse for wear on cocktails, becoming loud and offensive. In the most professional way possible he calmed the situation without losing them as future guests. Rude staff - never, excellent atmosphere and great food - always

A nice place to be treated badly

I've been to Southwark several times since it opened and it used to be a great place-however as it's popularity grew their food quality and customer service plunged. The staff can be summed up in one word "rude." Simple questions are answered with extremely sour attitudes on any given night. The food has gone from good to pitiful over the last year. I am not just saying this from one bad timeanyone can have an off night-but I was a semi-regular there and have had such horrible experiences there that I am honestly surprised to be writing this review. I would encourage anyone who finds themselves in that area of south Philly to take the time to walk a few blocks away to any of the numerous establishments where you will be treated with respect.

    Amazing

Visited Southwark for the second time last night and had another perfect dining experience. Our server was knowledgeable, professional, and rather amusing. They have an extensive rye list and make a great Manhattan. The house-smoked duck was the best duck preparation I've ever had. And the clams, steamed in vermouth with onions and tomatoes, are a must. The decor is classic yet welcoming with a gorgeous wooden bar and a quaint patio. Highly recommended for any occasion from dining with a group to a solo dinner at the bar.

    Great little stop!

Features a small plate menu with eclectic blending of ingredients. I love this place. They have a 100 year old Manhattan recipe that must be tried. The bar is beautiful. The staff is warm and the ingredients are seasonal and very fresh. If you are a big eater, this is not the place for you, though. I had the octopus yesterday and there was practically nothing on the plate. The escargot is awesome and anything they do with striped bass is great, paired with unusual veggies. Yesterday I had rabbit stew.
