After 160 years in existence, the Springfield Inn ceased operations this past summer after serving it's last customer on July 27, 2013. It had been a great place. The last time I was there was Feb. 2, 2013 for a luncheon after my aunt's funeral. Twelve years before she had thrown a wonderful baby shower there for my wife. I remember going there occasionally growing up in the 60's and 70's. The food was traditional American fare (as you can see from their final menu) and was particularly popular with members of the Greatest Generation. However, each year there have been less and less of them - they would all be in their 90's - and the popularity of the place simply faded as more of the regional and national restaurant chains took over. The restaurant will be bulldozed and the site used to build a medical center hoping to cash in on Obamacare.
