    The Crab Gravy

So, I was introduced to SJ's by a tried and true SP Italian. Growing up at the beach and working at my grandparents seafood restaurant since I could walk made me want to try the crab gravy. I could smell it before it came to table and it's almost as good as my grandmothers. I have my own recipe and try to duplicate there's, and it didn't happen. Have a glass of wine, order the house salad (excellent) and get the crab gravy. You will not be disappointed.

    the crab incident

ok two things: 1. blue claw crabs at 5 each! thats five bucks for one (supposedly #1 size) that is just straight up insane. they were sized #2 and some #3. and one was a female. certainly not no 1 jimmies which are the cream of the barnegat crop. some were "light" (crabbers know what i mean, shedders. not a heavy fat one in the order... 2. "new jersey" crabs. my little 6 year old brother knows you arent pulling no 1 size until aug and sept in the jersey waters. its a fact. these are md or va specimens. the waitress wouldnt confirm or deny but she knew i knew what was up. the were prepared pretty crappy too. over cooked/steamed. next week ill write about the pizza which is actually very good. but needed to put this one out there as a regular i expect better from the stogie crew and their chefs and procurement peeps. dont try to pull one over on us!

    Stale.

Went in on a Monday, around 2pm. It was not too busy, there were about 4 other tables dining. We sat down, I noticed there were about 3 or 4 people on staff, excluding the bartender. A table sat down after us, and had their order taken first. As I am looking around, I notice food crums on the floor. Also, it was very overwhelming that it smelled like stale beer. Pretty sure it was the table I was sitting at. Finally, the server took our drink order. I wondered after about 15 minutes why it took so long for 3 sodas. It was not that busy, and there were atleast 3 people running tables. I enjoy their food, prices are a bit high, but good food nonetheless. Please keep up with the cleanliness, and have servers who do NOT all of a sudden be nice to their table, when it's close to dropping the bill and expecting a good tip.

    Never again

First time there and last. Waited quite awhile for a table for two . We watched as " twos " came in after us and were seated before us. Guess you have to know somebody. The food was so so and it wasn't worth the wait. The next time we're in Philly, we'll be dining elsewhere.

    Wow!

Had an unbelievable experience at Stogie Joe's! The food is so amazing and there is always something fun to do. Our server Annie was awesome! Great drink specials. They have $2 beers every day. I never had meatballs that good and the stromboli was ridiculous!

    Stop the music

Went there on a recent Saturday night and could not believe how loud the juke box was. There is no way you can enjoy a meal when you can't hear yourself think. PLEASE, enough with the LOUD music.
