I'm always willing to try a new pizza place, and last summer when our kitchen was being redone, we had to eat out every evening. So one evening we tried Taranova's after reading some nice reviews. Well, it far exceeded our expectations. The pizza is excellent. Thin crust, good red sauce, lots of cheese, ample toppings. Maybe second only to Taconelli's in the entire Philly region. Then I tried the sausage parmesan sandwich (a hot grinder, actually) and enjoyed it even more than the pizza. Perfect balance of well grilled sausage, sweet sauce, melted mozzarella and crispy roll. Plus, I always ask for hot (banana) peppers on the sandwich too. The wife prefers their pasta & cheese dishes, like ravioli or manicotti. Always served with a big salad & garlic bread. All the young servers are pleasant & helpful. One of them even held onto a pair of sunglasses that the wife left by accident until we returned. The place is fairly bland looking, and could use some fancier tables & booths. But when we go our for pizza & subs, we're not looking for fancy. When it comes to downhome pizza & pasta & subs, there's no place I can think of that's any better than Taranova's. It's nearly as good as was Rizzo's in Glenside, the legendary pizza shop that closed a few years ago. And, if you arrive for lunch or early enough in the evening, you need to stop into Fritz's Bakery next door and take home some goodies. They're best known for their sticky buns, but I swear by the apple turnovers and the brownies.

Pizza was small and expensive. Ordered wings and they were undercooked. No thanks

We brought our school group of 30 5th graders from NYC to this restaurant. Noreen (the party coordinator) was a blessing. She was unbelievable at creating a menu for our kids in the price range we needed. The moment we walked in everyone was so warm and accommodating! The food was amazing, and the kids were in heaven!! She even baked cupcakes for the kids for dessert. The chef came in to say hello to the kids. This was an amazing and unforgettable food experience for our kids. Oh... and the philly cheese steak... YUM!

I have been eating Taranova's since the day the opened. They have fine tuned their menu over the years and made a pleasant bistro to eat in. But we have home delivery 99% of the time. Good food, service and nice people. Everything from a slice of Pizza to Veal Marsala. The Italian Wedding Soup is another favorite as are the poppers and wings with the side of celery and very chunky blue cheese dressing. I don't think I have ever had anything from there I didn't like. Home deliver is always 40 minutes but it usually comes in 30. Food is hot when it comes. Nice containers too.

I live locally and since they opened order from no where else. All food is good there, and on the restaurant menu, vs take out they even have great spicey seafood meals.

I come in to Philly about once a month on average for an extended stay and each time I am here I order from this restaurant at least twice. There food is amazing and I love it. It is reasonably priced and a quality product.
