    Service and Good Food!

I have never had a bad experience with Top of the Hill! Service and good food all in place is hard to come by.

    No seafood market like it!

I just threw out a half pound of bay scallops. Having moved to California from CH mere weeks ago, I am already desperate for Top of the Hill seafood. Nothing compares. I haven't had a good piece of fish since I left and I live in the bay area! Andy and his crew have pristine fish, and the steaks are amazing as well. If you haven't been, go now. And if it's right in your neighborhood, treasure it. Since moving, I now know what I have left behind.

    Love, love, love this place

Where is this "poor service" silliness coming from? Great service is one of many things that distinguishes this joint from so many others. I'll admit, it's three blocks from where I live, and I tend to root for the home team, but these folks are amazingly cheerful, and their efficiency is almost machine-like. Some of the reviews have mentioned one thing I agree with--once you've ordered, it's hard to know where to stand. But the great food makes it all worth the trouble. Try the pork sandwich with mozzarella and broccoli rabe when it's on. And their breakfast sammies are killer.

    Great place to eat!

Love the food, love the location! With so many places closing on the Avenue and nothing but pizza for a lunch option, the Top of the Hill is the best thing going! We've never had a bad meal and often get both lunch to sit and eat and dinner to take home. Definitely worth the money.

    Never had poor service

I have been enjoying the food and atmosphere here for years. I have no complaints and it is always my first thought for a quick, tasty meal. The employees work hard and are always personable. Sometimes prices have to change according to the season and that is understandable.

We need more places like this

I don't understand some of the other reviews I just read. The service was fine -- you stand in a short line and order your food at a counter, and then either sit at one of the tables inside or (and this is the best) sit at one of the outside tables either in the sun or shade. The people that have taken my order have always been cheerful and helpful. I only go on the weekend, so I guess it's possible that the scene is a bit different during the week. But, based on what I experience on the weekend, I'd be very surprised. Everything tastes great and the food choices are interesting. It's one of my favorite places to go ad have a relaxing lunch or snack. The related store next store offers lots of fresh produce, fish, flowers, etc. -- all of high quality.

Poor service never tasted so good, or cost so much.

If your a fan great food, and don't mind turning your wallet upside down and shaking the contents into the waiting hands of someone who could not care less about your patronage ....then Top of the Hill is the masochistic experience for you. Excellent food at ridiculous prices (even for Chest. Hill) Saoups and sammys are fresh and fantastic. Atmosphere is chaotic and frantic. Prices seem to change daily. I got the same salad with grilled chicken two days in a row, $7 and $9 respectively. "$9....for a small salad?" ..."What do you want? It's Chestnut Hill", says the angry cat behind the counter replied. If you need geography lessons like this one, well grab your lube and fire up the car. I have also noticed that the portions are shrinking.
