    Dinner was Ok

Met friends in Philly after a day of touring the city. Our friends said that this place was great as I asked for somewhere casual. I did not want to get dressed up. It is not a fancy place but it was definitely busy. We went and were seated without too much of a wait. The menus are paper and while there were no descriptions of the dishes, the waitress did offer explanations. My friends ordered a salad to share that never arrived and overall the food was ok. I might try them again if I am in that neighborhood but I am not sure I would go out of my way to eat there. Overall my experience here was average.

    not worth it

Went to dinner with my friend, the decor is old, my waitress seemed annoyed by our questions, the food was over priced and the entrees came with nothing but 3 pieces of asparagus. The menu said you could get spaghetti on the side for 3 dollars extra, but only in a red sauce. Are you kidding me, you can't add some olive oil and garlic? And only spaghetti, no capellini? Our eight dollar salad had russian dressing that tasted like it came from a bottle. I would never go back, there are so many other restaurants cheaper and have a better atmosphere and better tasting food. I felt like I was so ripped off when I left.

Definitely a +++++! Worth the trip.

We decided on VDR from a friends recommendation and it didn't disappoint. Who cares about fancy decorations when the food and service are tops. You can't get any closer to the source than in the Italian Market. We shared are dishes family style and the asparagus appetizer was so good I could of eaten it as a main dish! This will definitely be one of our top choices whenever we get back to Philly.

    Warning....Not worth it!!

Out for my wife's B-Day and decided to stop in. We decided to eat at the bar and did not expect the best service but WOW! Bartender seemed indifferent, and able to carry out only one task at a time. Water took two promptings to arrive and the place only had 5 people at the bar including us. The villa salad was drenched in store-bought salad dressing. The ravioli was overcooked to the point of waterlogged...if it was homemade I know it can not be al dente...but this was mushy. The sauce was OK, the meatballs....let's just say there are two places in center city with better meatballs...one place with "sandwich board" in the name of the restaurant and the other with "meatball" in the name. For two glasses of house wine, one mixed cocktail, one entree salad, and one pasta entree...total $50....passs!

    Worth a 125 mile drive

First spaghetti and meat balls you can get any where so this is not the place if that's your taste. So let's start with the apps - fried asparagus, sauteed escarole or spinach, Mussels in red or white gravy - Main courses Veal Chop to die for, Lobster Francaise(sp?), and Chicken Sicilian just to name a few of our favorites; however the menu selection goes beyond these delights. Overall a great dining experience. Top it all off with a good Chianti and you have an meal to remember..

    It's Not Ralph's

Stopped in Ralph's (my favorite) on a whim without a reservation. They were packed. My husband suggested VDR since he had been there before. We were seated right away on a Saturday night. The dining room was really bright and had zero atmosphere. (I love Ralph's upstairs dining room) They had no wine list and paper menu's with out any entree descriptions!! The waitress seemed "put off" when I asked about the different veal dishes that I was not familiar with. I did order a veal dish. It came with nothing. Just veal on a plate, so I ordered a side of spaghetti. (My dinner was good.) We started with mussels in red which were good. My husbands said his entree was very good. Overall, VDR was just OK.
