Microscopic portions for $$$$
You need a magnifying glass to see what's on your plate, LITERALLY. Please do not order the cold rice stuffed peppers. Menu looks nice, dining room is well-designed, but those morsels of food you get are totally not worth the price.

Great Food but Pricey
Fabulous ambience, great service and delicious food. I highly recommend it, but a little heavy on the wallet. Either 'beef' up the portions or lower the prices!!

most expensive smallest portions in town!
My husband and I went to Zahav for the first time with out of town guests from Boston and were incredibly disappointed! At first we were seated across from the back end of the open kitchen while the restaurant was half empty and had to ask to be reseated. The salad course(s) looked liked condiments and the main courses with the exception of the lamb were miniscule. The lamb was overcooked as was the rice under it. When we asked for more bread our waiter told us while he would bring it to us there would be so much food coming he didn't want us "filling" up on bread. At $42 per person the price of the meal was outrageous! We selected Zahav because Philadelphia Magazine had rated it the NUmber 1 NEW Best restaurant in Philly . What a mistake! This is my first online review of a restaurant but I feel very strongly about my experience last evening . I have eated in Israel and had much better cuisine.

Terrific meal
We went to Zahav last night. We are 2 couples. I was a little hesitant after reading some negative reviews saying the service was poor and the portions small. Everything was wonderful. The service was attentive. Our water was filled over and over. Our plates and utensils were replaced several times. the waitress explained the menu and the food and came back over and over to make sure we were happy. The food was fresh and delicious. We ordered the $36.00 meal which included all the small tastes. We made sure to order all different things and we shared everything (which is how the meal is meant to be). The portions are small, but after a couple of bites each of so many items, we were stuffed. Even my husband, who is a big guy, was full. The only shortcoming was the dessert. They are so unlike the sweet dessert we are used to, that they didn't seem like dessert at all. The waitress even offered to get us different desserts when she saw that we hadn't eaten them. We declined. Overall we had a terrific meal.

An Amazing Meal
I went to Zahav last night with my friend who was in town on business and we had an incredible meal. This is a great date restaurant as well. We did the tasting for $34 (appx.) and it was plenty of food. The hummus and salads (8) were our favorite. We were honestly blown away by how good everything was. It was one of the best meals I've had out in a long time. I will be going back.

Restaurant Week Hit!
We went for Restaurant Week and, unlike most places that cull their menus to the cheapest items and their service to the minimum, Zahav was wonderful. Even though we weren't paying as much, they clearly appreciated our business. Although it is pricier a la carte than we eat usually, the two $10 off coupons (one for each of us, and they can be used together!) ensures we will be back for more of that delicious hummus and lamb kibbee. The front of house was wonderful, and it was more tasty food than either of us could eat for $35.

great "special" place
Just ate at Zahav last week and had great food both times. Not sure if previous reviews came when they were pretty new and trying to get their act together, but our group of six didn't have any problems. The ambiance was cool, too! I do think the food is a little on the pricey side so I don't think we could go back on a regular basis, but definitely good for special occassions or bringing a friend to try something new.
